I posted messages on other forums with no luck of anyone responding.
I had Nightlong for a long while but cannot get a clear screen resolution, its like all the graphics are in a monochrome display.
I running a Mediator A4000T, with A4000T and CyberstormPPC 604e with a Voodoo5500.
I had reports that other gamers have had this issue, can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Also since moving over from the Prometheus card to the Mediator my Quake2 wont work, i get the menu and intro but when you select the single game it starts loading and about a minute later it freezes.
My other PPC games like Shogo and Heretic 2 work without any issues.
Any help or advice would be helpful...

Well, can't help too much yet, but I too have an A4000T and my Mediator will be here on Wed. :) My video board is a Voodoo3 3000 SGRAM version though. Doubt it'll make much of a difference.
How do you like the Mediator in that 4000T? Is yours the 'real' A4000T, or simply a towered 4000D? Mine is the origonal.
Also, I don't have a PPC but rather a Quickpak 060 overclocked to 72MHz. I have a Picasso IV currently and Quake plays great. I had to modify the PIV by removing the connector headers for the FF because the Quickpak 060 puts the 4th SIMM too close to the top video slot. From the looks of the Mediator pictures, it covers the bottom video slot so I can't keep the PIV there. Not a problem beings the FF was not removed to work in an A2000 so I didn't need those connectors anyway. :) I wanted to keep the PIV in this system simply for the great flicker fixer incase I need any native AGA modes.
If I have the same problems as you with my Quake, I'll let you know. Does the Voodoo5500 support GLQuake on the miggy yet?
Cheers!

Have you got the newest voodoo drivers from Elbox for Voodoo 4 and Voodoo 5? That might be the problem.
Also, you could write directly to Elbox, they will happily help you with anything regarding Mediator. They have a nice support and a fast one too.
I have the problem with BlitzQuakeWOS GLQuake version for PPC. The 68k versions of GLQuake works really nice.
I've only got a Voodoo 3 2000, and MediatorPCI4000di. Good of you, that you take up subjects like this! Very nice.
My Amiga:

.....
Is your Amiga 4000T the original one from Commodore or Escom version? Just wondering.
....
I also wonder about your QuikPak 060 board? Is it good? Any problems with it, or what? :) Is it better than the rumours about Apollo cards?
....
What happened to QuikPak really? Are they R.I.P?

is this the ppc version if so where you get it from i want ppc version myself :-) :-) :-) :-)

It's the newer Escom version of the A4000T. I love it!
The Quickpak 060 is a fantastic board. Many people don't realise it's
so good. It was designed by GVP and is built with quality that Phase5
never dreamed of. (so far I have seen a MK3 and a CSPPC go bad
this month alone!) It's also the fastest 060 thanks to it's
supporting EDO RAM. It actually is the only Amiga accelerator that
uses the EDO feature of RAM. With EDO enabled at 72MHz, it runs
circles around the MKIII/CSPPC. I got it with the 4000T and luckly it
has the 68060RC50A rev 5 CPU that's supposed to be good to 80MHz. I'm
running it at 72MHz because any higher and my RAM can't keep up. I
need to find 50NS RAM if I want to use 80MHz. Also, many people
complain that their Phase5 custom chips (GALS) get too hot to touch,
well the QP060 has a chipset that stays cold to the touch, even at
72MHz. :)
I can't complement this board enough. :) I tried it in my A3000T
system and it works in that too.

Yes mines the last A4000T made by Amiga Technologies, got it as left over stock from Amiga last year. Its brand new never seen the light of day.
I got a PicassoIV card in my old A1200T, it uses a switch between modes.
Do the AGA modes get switched automatically to the PIV card?
If so i could use mine but dont have any room, as the x-surf is using the video slot.
The mediator card is excellant, i use to have a promethues card but its design is not stable in my machine as the pci cards wobble, plus the designed bracked does not fit in the A4000T as hits the sound card.
Since using the Mediator its stable and the soundblaster digital 5.1 works a dream in this machine.
Yes Quake is fast, i would get rid of the Voodoo3 card and buy a voodoo 4500 or 5500. Much faster in 2D mode. They only £30-40 quid on ebay.
I have a voodoo 4500 & 5500 as well (2 graphics cards) both are similiar expect the 5500 has 2 fans and 2 processors so its faster.
Elbox have not yet developed drivers for the Voodoo4500&5500, i still think they are voodoo3 drivers which are compatible.
Just to let you know take your time when installing the Mediator.
Dont install any PCI cards until you have tested the main board.
Yeah so i am frustrated with Nightlong as it does the same display on both cards and also did it on the prometheus.

I got it from ClickBoom direct.

You asking me or the 2nd posting?
Mines the Amiga Technologies A4000T

Remember to replace the A4000T fan its ####.
I got a Thermaltake from
http://www.overclock.co.uk/
The fan is perfect it fits great and you dont have to worry about it not fitting.
Also when you first switch the A4000T on you think god its quite.
Wait a while and then the fan speeds up as it detects the heat... its keeps it cool!

Use this version of Quake for when you mediator card arrives

So after a long discussion can anyone help me to get NightLong PPC version and Quake2 working on the CyberstormPPC/Voodoo5500/Mediator.
-
I'm an electronics engineer by trade but I'm currently the Unix
sysadmin for Emerson Electric. I'm sure I can handle the Mediator
install. :)
When I got this A4000T, it was owned by a smoker so I bought a new
A4000T case from SoftwareHut (the real Escom 4000T case) and
completely gutted the machine and cleaned all the boards to remove
the smoke tar and smell. I replaced the PSU with a new 300W as well
because the origonal one smelled. Now my machine is like brand new.
:)
My system stays nice and cool. There is a new 27CFM fan in the
front. I have a blue orb on the 060 and on the Voodoo3.
I purposely chose the Voodoo3 over the 4 or 5 because of better driver
support and the whole reason I wanted the Mediator is for GL. I'd
hate to buy the Voodoo4 or 5 and risk not having stable 3D support.
Besides, the Voodoo3 3000 SGRAM will blow away my Picasso IV. :)
-
Sounds cool.
How come you got a fan on the 060, it does not get hot!
Do you have NightLong or Quake 2 working?
-
The chipset itself stays cool on the QP060. The 060 CPU will get
pretty warm at 72MHz if I don't keep it cooled. Plus, the
omnidirectional design of the ORB keeps a flow of cool air over the
entire QP board and RAM, just in case.
I have not tried both of those games yet. I will when my Mediator
comes Wed or Thurs.
-
I found that Quake 2 worked with the Prometheus and Voodoo4500.
But since moving to the Mediator and Voodoo5500 it does not work.
Nightlong never worked on either so i be surprised if it works on yours.
I just installed a new fan onto the powerpc chip an 060, they are the Stealth Fighter v3 fans, low profile and metal.
Let me know how u get on with your games.
-
i sent my crash file to hyperion, they looking it to the issue. Might be a bug in the GLRendering.
-
nightlong is abit tricky on some setups , 15 and 16 bit modes have to be selected on which api u use, and on the mediator it needs some more memory, but a v5500 have 64megs ram so i dont see this as a prob for you.
anyway if you get mono picture, try and open in diffrent resulutions (and diffrent modes) , and if you get a trashy screen do a multitask back to wb and instantly back to the game (sounds weird but it works for me) , then the display is OK here.
only happens like 1 or 2 times while i play..
i have tried nightlong on PIV, CV643d , Bvision , Vodoo3 , voodoo5 ..
for quake 2 , start from a clean shell line and not using last prefs (NOLRU) (not last recently used) then set it up again, then it should work fine, as it have some features that may and may not crash..
enjoy
