Title: What is the Best way to connect an A500 to a VGA Monitor
Post by: Antiriad on January 04, 2005, 06:05:30 PM
My question is the following.

What is the best way to connect an Amiga 500 to a VGA monitor or a Good quality TV.

1) Amiga RGB to Scart(Good Quality?)
2) Amiga RGB to Modulator to TV(Poor Quality?)
3) Amiga RGB with VGA Converter box to a VGA monitor

As far as I know for the 3rd Option you need a scan-doubler/flicker fixer AND a converter box. The chepest one seems to be 1 and then 2. The 3 option might not be worth the money.

Any other cheap options that I am missing?

Thanks

Mike

I found an ICD Display enhancer (flicker fixer) on eBay some time ago. To install, I removed the Denise chip from my A500, and replaced it with the ICD board. The board has a 9 pin connector attached that you can connect to a PC monitor direct.

The results are stunning, in Interlace mode while connected to a VGA monitor, but note the flicker fixer does not work on Commodore 1084 monitors, as the board simply passes through the 15 pin (RGB) connector unmodified.
