Title: any way to record a workbench session?
Post by: Desolator on January 01, 2005, 06:27:09 PM
Just fiddling around with the output recording thinghy in WinUAE..

is there a way to record the workbench? All I get is the first seconds when it boots, then it doesn't record anything else.

Tried it with some games too but still only records the first few seconds (of blackness) then stops.

confusing... :-?

PC probably can't do it, get your original Amiga, bang it in the TV and hit record on the VCR

I recommend connecting it to a DV cam that has S-Video input or Composite input and record it Digitally.......then transfer to  through  FireWire to a PC and Convert it to a VCD or DVD or just a Quicktime :-)

You can make high quality DVD Amiga tutorials etc...

Could it be that the WinUAE capture doesn't work with P96 screens?

Thanks for all the answers. :)

Seems like I'll have to plug in my real amiga and record it as mentioned. I just wanted to use WinUAE since its speed far outruns my hardware to record som e "newbie" tutorials for those new in the amiga world. (noticed over the few months that more and more people tries the emulated enviroment for kicks, then fall in love with it, and I'm not late to promote the Amiga.. :D)

Thats a really good idea :-) A series of 'Workbench for Dummies' would help alot of Amiga virgins, especially when UAE can be used as a real productive environment now (I noticed they've improved the printing capabilities in the latest release - yay! :-)).

Great news, I finally managed to get it to work. :) Silly me, I had to activate the recording AFTER booting into WB. *Doh*

My copy of AF 6 should arrive this week so I'm going to record how a user should do to install OS 3.9 on a WinUAE enviroment, then after installation of the OS how to setup Picasso96, MUI and some other programs, and lastly how to make it all pretty with PowerIcons. Oh, and a quick tour to Aminet with a browser. Then if someone actually WATCH the videos I create is another story.. but  I'm having fun anyway and will get a chance to try out some videoediting.  :-D

Anyone using windows besides their Amiga that could point me to a program that records the Windows desktop too? Could be useful.

I bet the screen recorder couldn't handle the resolution change.  :-)  (remember, like a real Amiga, the emulated one boots in 640x200 NTSC and then switches to the Picasso mode.)  That would mean an AVI that was changing resolution and aspect ratio!

I've heard FRAPS (http://www.fraps.com/download.htm) is good.  I haven't used it, myself.

BTW - An excellent idea, too.  Hopefully there is some higher bandwidth site that can help you out with hosting and distribution when you're done.  :-)
