Title: Miami problems (URGENT)
Post by: Nick on February 21, 2003, 04:02:50 PM
Helloo there

We`ve just signed up with a new ISP. OneTel. Problem is I can`t get my Amiga online using that connection at the moment. Miami v3 doesn`t seem to like the idea of OneTel at the moment. I`ve installed MiamiDX, something which I have only limited experience with. I`ve got what seems like all of the info in it, but things are a foot.

The main Online button is useless. When I go into "Interfaces" I press online from within there, it makes all the right noises etc. Thing is it says its online in the Interfaces bit, but not on the main bit at the bottom. Also when I go into IBrowse it doesn`t seem to be online at all.

PLEASE HELP....We`re cutting off our other ISP soon. Things could get very annoying!

Thanks

When you switch to a new ISP, you can't simply hit the online button and expect it to work.  Did you run the MiamiInit program first, and then import its settings into MiamiDx ??

Quick list of steps to follow:
1) Run MiamiInit and follow its instructions.
2) Quit MiamiInit.
3) Run MiamiDx.
4) Import settings from MiamiInit.
5) Try connecting.  If it works, then make sure you do a "Save Settings as Default" in MiamiDx.

Hehe thanks. Its not quite as easy as Miami v3 then.

I have changed ISPs a few times using th old Miami, no problem. This one obviously needs a better TCP/IP stack to work. Oh well it forced me to upgrade anyway.

Thanks....Crisis over.

I use Miami Dx with ADSL now. But Miami v3 works fine too,
I have both.
Make sure you have the right driver selected for Sana I use the mni drivers that come with MiamiDX (they will also work with Miami v3) on my real  Amiga. With Amithlon you have to use the powern2k.device.
In the settings make sure that it is set to DHCP and that use DHCP is active in prefs
But as suggested before use Miami Init for both Miami and MiamiDX. load the settings in and it should work.

Also find out if your ISP uses ppoe as this will make a difference.

If you got to www.nodicglobal.com Holger has a very good  tutorial in ADSL/Cable setup.

@ SilvrDrgn

I am using MiamiDX on my Pegasos, and I must say that setting up the connection with MiamiInit is very smooth!  :-)

I would like the full version of this software. Too bad that it's not possible to register anymore ...  :-(

You can get it from aminet. Both v3 and DX versions. Also theres almost everything else you`d want for it.

I visited the Nordic Global site and it still had problems with downloads like last time I tried.

Oh, Aminet was a way too obvious :-)

I've tried to use Miami Init and it can never find my IP the other setting for my cable modem service. I manually set it up and it works. Why would miami init not work anyone??

Cool, i decided to go online with my working settings and then try Miami Init again and it worked. I get a much better connection using the new setting too.
