Hi,
I remember being told that it is possible to replace the 040 of the original A4000/040 CPU board if you replace the crystal accordingly.
Is it possible to upgrade the 68060 on a CSPPC by means of the same procedure?
-
Dunno about the rest, but you'll need 3.3V for the '60...
-
In order to replace the 50 MHz 68060 with a 60 MHz one, all you need to do is replace the actual CPU itself, and replace the oscillator with a 60 MHz one.
But why not just overclock the 50 MHz 68060 chip that's already there? Mine's been running at 60 MHz with no problems for 3 years or so. Have a look at http://members.iinet.net.au/~davem2/overclock/csppc.html

Do not waste your time buying and installing a new 060 unless the original one will not run stable at 66MHz. But also make sure you use good RAM, 60ns type too. Most 060's run at 66 but all will run a 60MHz, with a simple Oscillator change.

And cooling. Don't forget to add active cooling when you overclock. My CSMK2 runs just fine at 66MHz with a small heatsink and fan.

I had the opportunity to swap out a 68060 @ 50 for one at 60 to be able to run it at 66Mhz. But it still does not run 100% stable. On hot summer days it locks up machine. Could just be a ventilation thing though.

Might be the RAM PALs or memory; I noticed the PALs do run quite warm even with 50 MHz and added a fan to blow to the chips and SIMMs.

Motorola made several revisions of this chip.
Rev. 1 (Mask 1F43G) can run up to 66Mhz, and in some cases higher (The 060 accellerator in my Atari is running@72Mhz).
Rev. 6 is capable of running at speeds above 100Mhz, however I don't know if the chipset in any of the current Amiga accellerators can do this.

yes . . .this is the best gift for your CS :-)
The ram controller ICs (and the back of the PCB too), runs warm.
