Hi,
Got:
Power Tower with Amiga 1200 Motherboard
BlizzardPPC (040 25mhz, PPC 200MHZ) with 32megs
BVision
I was going to get a PCMCIA wireless ethernet adaptor but when I got this thing I noticed the PCMICA slot is against the bottom of the case and there is no room. Since wireless ethernet (and MAYBE upgraded sound) is all i need i cant justify buying a PCI bus. what are my options? is there an extender for the pcmcia port? I'm NOT cutting awhole in the case and leaving this thing on it's side.
also is there a list somewhere of drivers available for existing wireless cards? i'd prefer to get a used $10 PCMCIA card on ebay and just download drivers if i can.
Thanks,
Neofree

Hey neofree.
I don't know anything about physically getting the PCMCIA card into the case, but I did get my card running on my unexpanded 1200. You're looking for a Prism 2 or Prism 2.5 card as far as I know. It will have to be 16 bit and 5v. I used a Netgear MA401 (or something similar to that model, can't remember the exact model number) and it worked fine with a 3rd Party Driver. Check out this (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=45645) page. I downloaded the driver from that page and it worked great.

You are looking for that V adapter to use a pcmcia card in a tower : check this out !!! (http://www.amigasuperbit.com/indexcataloge/377.htm)
WLAN Adapter Chipset Directory, The ones with Linux behind it will probably work on Amiga1200 (http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz)

29 euros??? bonking head..

I'm not sure how well the reseption will be for a whireless ethernet card encased in a metalcase such as a tower.
I'd suggest a drastic aproach where you get extend the PCMCIA port to the back of the machine... either by buying extra parts (or just desolder the existing PCMCIA port) and solder whires between.
Especially in a none Zorro/PCI tower solution you want as much as possible still protruding out the back. :-D

Do i have any other options without getting pci bus?
-
The card should work in the case okay. Macs have them installed inside the case and they all seem to work okay. Yoir range may not be great though since the areal will also be inside.

Yes you do. Use a cheap wired ethernet pcmcia and the following wired/wireless bridge;
Belkin F5D7330 54Mbps Wireless Ethernet Bridge

still gotta spend 29 euro for a simple adaptor. trying to search web for cheaper one. anyone know where i can get one in usa? perhaps a "I wont mark it up JUST because it's used for Amiga" dealer in USA?
-
In the USA ??? Sure, no problem !! At Revanche LLC (http://revanchellc.com/cgi-bin/mivavm?Merchant2/merchant.mvc+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=REV&Product_Code=PCMCIAR&Category_Code=ACHD) they´ve got one too, with only a weight of 0,25 pounds
-
$44?? Geez... Certainly these items are available elsewhere in the industry.. I can't imagine this is the only need for such a product. I can get sophisticated SCSI adaptors/terminators for $12, this is just a simple passthrough adaptor.
I think I may sell the BVision and get a mediator.. seems cheaper really
-
Well after getting over the crazy price I ordered one from At Revanche LLC as it was cheapest for me... Now to find the Netgear..
-
Just picked up a poorly listed Netgear MA401 on ebay with buy it now. :) (was hard to find one with buy it now)
-
That´s the fun of Ebay, finding something that is not clearly listed
-
ever tried Fat Fingers (http://www.fatfingers.com/) ?
I guess that takes the fun out of it though
-
Well I ordered the PCMCIA 90 degree adaptor from Revanche LLC on December 29th, still hasn't shipped yet... Nor have they charged my card... Anyone have experience with this company?
