Hi all,
I have just bought an A4000. Its SIMMS sockets (guess what...) do not hold the RAM bars in place anymore. I have desoldered them all, and I have installed new sockets, with good, metallic, brackets. However, I only have four of those, and I need five (1 for CHIP and 4 for RAM). I am having difficulties to source it.
Does anyone know where can I get hold of those? I am in northern Spain, but it is fine with me if I can reach a mail order company that can supply it.
Thanks!

If you're not averse to stripping old ones, some of the old mac Quadras can be picked up really cheap (at least they can here) and they carry 72 pin simm sockets. All of my LC475 and Quadra 605s have a socket with the metal clips on them, and they typically go for $5 to $15 Australian. Centris/Quadra 650 and 800s have more sockets, and often don't go for much more.

If you need a whole batch of them, an SGI Indigo2 (early rev teal) motherboard can usually be found on the cheap (at least in the US, not sure about elsewhere). They have 12 of the super-heavy duty metal-clip 72pin SIMM sockets on them, too!
I think the one I picked up (which included the 250mhz R4400 processor card -- the item I really wanted) was all of $15 on eBay.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I have some old PC motherboards that have these sockets too, but the problem is that I need the type that holds the bars at an inclination. I am familiar with desoldergin/soldering, but does the equipment that you propose to buy for the spares have "inclined" SIMM sockets?
Thanks again!

The quadra 605/LC475 (http://www.danamania.com/glgallery/beige/q605_commercial?full=1) does, for one. 650/800s run vertical though.

WOW! Impressed. I'd propose for dinner if I lived somewhere nearer :-)
By the way, the post is still open to further suggestions.

How about this one: conrad.de (http://www1.conrad.de/)
If you can desolder them on your A4k board, i'm sure you can desolder these guys from there board. For only €1!!!
Hope it works, keep us posted!
EDIT: You can order them for 30pins AND 72pins.
EDIT2: Search for SIMM on the site. I can't link directly to the product unfortunatly. Look for "Produktschnellsuche"

Not the one I proposed. The old SGI ones go straight vertical.
