Title: Hypercom 3z won´t even show up in Early Startup Menu !!!
Post by: Effy on December 24, 2004, 03:21:33 PM
A friend of mine wants to use a Hypercom 3z that he bought from me. In his A1200(T)/RBM TowerHawk case/5x ZorroII RBM BusBoard/Phase5 Blizzard 1260 32MB/Elbox PowerFlyer FAST-ATA 1200/20GB HD/32x CD-ROM/OS 3.9/DCE FlickerMagic/Topolino III. He ran the installer script, and have the hyperCOM30Z.device on his devs, and he used the tooltype: SERDEVICE=hyperCOM30Z.device , but got a "Serial Port Cannot Be Opened" ... neither showconfig or the Board Diagnostics of Early Startup Menu show it ... and even installed it in various slots, it does not show, and yes, with the cables upwards like most Zorro cards I know ...

I thought that if a card were faulty that the Amiga would give an error screen with some info but in this case nada !!

Any help would be appreciated  :-)

Well, I know it doesn't help much, but for what it's worth: when a card isn't in right but is able to autoconfigure, you'll know about it! The Amiga will boot into the Early Startup Menu, but instead of grey it'll be red. It'll also describe the dodgy card as "Faulty" instead of "Working".

I presume you have tried cleaning the contacts? Tried a different Zorro II board in the machine? Tried the board in a different machine? Otherwise check all the chips are seated properly.

well, I just noticed that the card gets hot when inserted... is it normal? I think it is dead for good....
