It needs to be said. For years now, Hyperion has selflessly dedicated themselves to helping the Amiga platform. Subsidising Amiga development with profits made in other areas, they have brought us some of the best games ever released on our platform. Their Amiga products have always been of outstanding quality.
A year or so ago, Hyperion stepped forward to pick up AmigaOS development. This was and still is a tremendously difficult project, with slim prospects of becoming profitable any time soon. To make things worse, most if not all announcements they make are met with aggression from certain individuals in the Amiga scene. At one point, things were so bad that the Friedens actually withdrew from Amiga forums for months. Is that the right way to treat our most productive, dedicated and not at least skilled coders? I don't think so. Still, in spite of all of this and all other obstacles: Development continued. Now it seems AmigaOS4 is nearing completion. The original featurelist has been expanded, and it seems like we are getting an OS which will be more than worth the wait.
Now why would anyone voluntarily go through what the people at Hyperion have gone through during the last year? I'm sure they wonder themselves sometimes. My guess is that they are idealists, people who are willing to make sacrifices for what they believe in. They are the very best kind of Amigans, and we are VERY lucky to have them among us. All of us who wants the Amiga to have a future owes them our gratitude. I urge all of you to do your best to enoucage and support them as best as you can.
To Hyperion: Thank you for your years of dedication to our platform. I hope you will succeed in what you are doing, and that your efforts will receive the recognition they deserve. Keep up the good work. I hope it will be rewarded, as it certainly deserves to.

Well said Kay
Personally I agree with you on this all the way, there dedication is untouched from all that has gone on. from plans to actually getting the ball rolling for the OS ported to PPC (always said it would take a few years in past publications), thats even excluding there games development which i hope they can continue to do so in the future.
I couldnt be happier with the current people working on the OS. Makes the waiting game that bit better knowing its in safe dedicated hands.
Ok, im gonna go have a whirl on Heretic 2 :-)

This is one thread I'll gladly join.
I'll gladly voice my utter agreement with Kay in this.
-... even though Kay's Norwegian, and as we all know,
norwegian is a 'cute sounding language'... no let's be serious
now. :-)
This little thread of support is a good initiative. I too have
often marvelled over the steel-skin of the Hyperion staff
and the fact that they are hanging in here, in the puny
Amiga scene of all places.

I have to agree, I really couoldn't care less about the mudslinging directed at AI, tbh they deserve it.... but Hyperion deserve little of the criticism and baiting going on around here,....
We'd soon be looking at our shoes and mumbling 'sorry', or 'don't know sir' if they were to leave the scene... and therefore , leave us in the ####.

Here Here...
I agree that Hyperion have contributed "above and beyond the call of duty" .
I have ordered my AmigaOne XE early bird (with the pre-purchased OS4) and do not fear that it will be a bad investment.
Dispite all the delays and disapointments I have never seen or heard Hyperion do anyting that was not well intentioned and completely up-front.
I have more faith in the birth of OS4 (eventually) than I currently have with a lot of other "Amiga" companies...
Now if only I can get my coupon and T-shirt !!!
Regards
Darren

With you all the way Kay! :-D

All respect to Hyperion Entertainment :-D

shades of 'on time and still rockin' ?
If this was a movement, you'd know it. The source would be open, the cost would be free.
Its a business, nothing wrong with that, but thats what it is...
in summary
delay=bad
hyperion=business
marktime=noooo don't answer that
believe it or not, I do wish them success, but I also
wish every member of this community success, and I'm not sure its wise for very many people to wait an inderminate amount of time to line up and spend a $380 premium on a machine that will be out of date when it hits the streets.
And before, anyone asks...yes, I have plenty of time to make posts, I have a life, and this is my hobby.
Well, I may not have very much time starting next week.....sigh, but I'll drop in as I can.
cheers

Are you hearing this Hyperion?
We mean EVERY word of it too!
Well said Kay, & I'd like to double up on everything you said.
The Hyperion team have in every way gained my respect. They are brave soldiers.

Well said, there's too much crap going on just now. It's good to see another positive thread :-D

Well said Kay, your post inspired me to start this
Thread (http://amiga.org/forums/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6520&forum=1&2)
If everyone here contributed, AOS4 would be here quicker.
-
Hyperion hauls ass, that's for sure - they are doing more for the Amiga community than any company has ever made (including Commodore, considering the huge fundings they had to back it all up - in comparison, they almost resemble Microsoft).
People, if I had two words of advice to give you, they would be: support Hyperion: spread the word and make sure to buy their products (they need and deserve a positive cash flow)!
(I for one will be buy AmigaOS 4.0 the second it hits the market)
-
Well said Kay. :-D
At one point, things were so bad that the Friedens actually withdrew from Amiga forums for months.
It was simply unbelievable how they were treated and ridiculed on forums like Moobunny by certain rival developers/supporters in the past.
Of course, I happily made myself unpopular on Moobunny at the time, by replying that the Frieden brothers are among the most talented coders the Amiga community has to offer. :-D
-
I've said it from the beginning, and I'll say it again.
Hyperion Rules!
I consider Hyperion as a family of professionals.
I consider Hyperion as a family of friends to the Amiga community.
I consider Hyperion just as much a part of this community as anyone else here.
As far as OS4 being dead as soon as it hits the store shelves.
Hahahha.
That's the biggest bunch of crap I've heard in a long time.
I've had people tell me that my A1200 was dead a long time ago.
But I used it all the way up to the time the board blew on me.
I still have all the software in safe storage for another day.
To the ones that would say the true AmigaOS (which OS4 is) is dead, they are not amigans in my view.
They are stressed out FUD throwers who have nothing better to do but bite the hand of the master who feeds them.
Reprobate from the true meaning of Amiga.
Great job Hyperion.
You truly are unique, and you truly are appreciated.
-
I must agree. Very nice post, Kay!
Hyperion has done a fantastic job of showing the power and capabilities of the classic (though expanded) Amigas.
I'm sure that they will release a very impressive OS 4.0; I'm looking forward to purchasing it!
-

Well, to be fair there were a few individuals at Moobunny who thought certain technical choices made by Hyperion were wrong. (And of course these guys didn't necessarily express their opinions in very nice ways, which a lot of us don't appreciate, no matter where we are on the issues.)
Personally, I agree that Hyperion is doing a heck of a job, in very difficult circumstances. I hope both Genesi and Hyperion/Eyetech will be able to bring their products to market and have success with them. This doesn't necessarily have to be a win-lose situation. People tend to pick a favorite and get overly emotional about things, perhaps going overboard on both the positive and negative sides. But in any case, credit should be given where it is due, and the Hyperion staff and others coding on AmigaOS4 certainly qualify.

Thank You Kay,
And definitely a big Thank You to the team at
Hyperion and all beta-testers. You are truely
ones to be congratulated and encouraged.

lets not forget "The ROM"(TM) by hyperion...
-
Kay, very well said, I thoroughly agree! I expect there are a great many normally silent Amiga users who would wholeheartedly agree with everything you said and especially the tone of your comments. There has been far too much un-civility in all of the Amiga forums of late.

I total agree, Hyperion is our best hope for future amigadevelopment.
And the secured the right to future develop AmigaOS if AmigaInc goes bust, they really must belive in the true spirit of amiga.

I intend to vote with my wallet and buy Os4 :-D
I recon Hyperion deserve to realy kick butt on all
expected sales forecasts, they are the most friendly
and proffessional bunch of codegods I've ever
em@iled!!
@Mips_Proc
ROM's are an amiga tradition! Are you trying to start
whineing on this possitive thread? :-?

Now why would anyone voluntarily go through what the people at Hyperion have gone through during the last year?
They must have have experienced the "Jay Miner factor" ;-) and are probably trying to keep it alive...
GO HYPERION!
-
Indeed!
If anyone has the chance, it woud be Hyperion.
Isn't it ironic that the companies who has managed to upgrade the OS after C='s demise hasn't been called Amiga? :-)
-
Kay kayoed:
It needs to be said. For years now, Hyperion has selflessly dedicated themselves to helping the Amiga platform.
;-) You're right, Kay; it needs to be said.
:-D And you said it well! Many of the Amiga-related companies that were around when Hyperion was new have since fallen by the wayside, or gone on to other things. We're lucky to have Hyperion with us, still.
-
I intend to vote with my wallet and buy Os4
I will as well.
If anyone from Hyperion if reading this, carry on with the good work :-)
-
Ok amigos,
I fully agree with this topic...
Hyperion is between the better things that have hit the Amiga World in the last dark years, for sure...
... and, finally, someone is coming to say that !
Thanks Hyperion boys...
-
I hope they see this thread and it raises their spirits.
They are indeed in a position to change the world. I mean, if the numbers only hit a few million, that's an impact, right? I'm not kidding. There's a better (best) way for computing to turn, and it is AMIGA!
There a many, many people who will appreciate the ability to have TOTAL SYSTEM CONTROL. Remember NASA? And hundreds of other special cases, where the other systems, and in this case even linux adds too much overhead, just aren't flexible enough.
I personally have an attachment to knowing where so and so application is, knownig I can move it to spot b, make an assign and off I go and continue using it. Any modification you make in windows, and its over, not like the Miggy, start off of an 880k disk, if worst comes to worst.
And NOT having networking/IE integrated and overhead in the OS will be sweet.
Amiga! Yeeessss!
-
Uh, I don't know what to say.
Thanks for your support... I'm speechless :)
-
@EntilZha
Thomas, its all true my friend. I know I speak for lots of Amigans who are extremely grateful for all your efforts - the sheer scale of the project is something a lot of people have lost sight of.
I personally cannot wait to see and use OS4 and the fruits of all your labours :-)
Virtual Pint on its way to ya!
-
I'm happy to see a thread without flaming and whining. OS 4 has been a long road to walk.
-
:-D
-
Hey Kay! I totally agree! Keep up the good work Hyperion... I'm dying to get my hands on OS4! :-)
And when its done, i'd like to buy you guys a drink :-D

Hear, Hear !
I trust in Hyperion + AmigaOS 4 team.
They are loyal, dedicated, hardworking team & I have the utmost respect for them all.
In these dark times, we need to look deep into ourselves in what we want and what we believe in.
Have faith & patience, it will be well worth it.
Lastly, Hyperion + Amiga OS team - a big thank you for your efforts.

Yes, IMO there is nothing wrong with having a different opinion or point of view. In a competitive market I would often view this as healthy. However these vocal people continuously spread cheap lies about the Frieden brothers, this besides the name calling...
Anyway, at least I share most of the opinions and views presented by the Frieden brothers. :-)
-
Am I seeing things...a POSITIVE thread!!!
@Kay....well done for making this thread! It`s about time people said their support for Hyperion.
@Hyperion.
We know it`s a very difficult job you are doing updating the OS, and we appreciate all the hard work your putting into it. My A1 is already ordered and I can`t wait to get my hands on OS4 too.
THANKS HYPERION!!!! :-D
-
For real :-D
-edit-
I for one get really p*ssed of when people start bitching about delays etc. I'd like to see those same individuals attempt such a project!
AmigaOS 4 will be worth the wait, I'm sure. I'm excited ;-)
-
Here!, Here!
And just to show my support I just bought QuakeII and Freespace :-)
Nice to have a thread which is so positive.

Thx Hyperion for your work.
PS: but i have a copy of Shogo that you ensure that will work on my ShakPPC last year.....
Anyway good work. I'll play it on my AmigaONE

Heya hawa, heya hawa, heya hawa, heya hawa!
:-D :-D :-D
-
WOW,
You all are this happy now, what if they actually had produced an OS? Imagine then!
then we'd all be happy.
I personally like the idea of a positive thread...nevertheless, I can't be happy with NOTHING.
Maybe I just don't have the imagination for it. :-)
It makes an interesting thought, just maybe this community is happier with their imagination than reality....perhaps the worst thing Hyperion could do is produce the product....hehehe, just kidding, of course they need to keep their word and launch in March.
I can't buy a pegasos either, so right now, I can't start a positive thread, how can I do that until I have something to write ABOUT.
I'm not into the whole fantasy role playing aspect of this community, I'm still more of a pure computer nerd rather than role playing/hero worshipper....
-
I brought my first Amiga back in 1988 and was happily PC free until a few years ago. I've been without an Amiga for about 2 years now but finally, thanks to Hyperion, I'm on the verge of having an Amiga again.:D
Excellent work Hyperion. It is greatly appreciated.
-
I don't see any wrong in hero-worshipping. Amiga has always been about hero coders. Think about dancing fools for example :-)
I respect expertize in any field. I believe that the Friedens were not kernel experts 2 years ago (might be wrong, though), but I guess that they know what they are doing right now :-D
I also respect other achievements, like AROS and MorphOS. I hadn't mentioned this but at least MarkTime talked about Pegasos first ;-)
Give them all the chance to show you miracles - and have a nice weekend everyone! :-)
-
@MarkTime
Positive threads are certainly a special thing on this site :-)
But just think about all the negative stuff that Hyperion have had written about them here. Often, they get blamed for A Inc's problems - it's much nicer to get a healthy balance. And, besides, Hyperion have done a lot. If they wanted to make lots of money, they could have stopped Amiga development ages ago. Instead, they embark on a long-term project with no near-term benefits to them. I think they deserve a bit of praise now and then!
-
What a nice change to read such things! :-)
Indeed Hyperion have put a great deal into our platform. I hope that they will be rewarded some day!
:-)
-
I say the topic is un understatement :-)
-
I tend to agree. However, one can only judge what Hyperion has done and if it is any good when the product is actually released. So until then, i don't like to judge and cheer that much.
However, i feel that they are the right team to tackle this job and i've got huge confidence in the programming skills of the Frieden brothers.
Once i see OS4 booting on a AOne, then i will say that they have done a lot more than Gateway, escom and others together, with a lot less cash. But that is for the moment that i see it with my own eyes.
But i support them, i have confidence in them and i can live with it being not out yet. It is a difficult and big task but i do believe that they are making a very solid and good base for further OS updates, and well thought out.
Keep believing in it, Hans jörg and Thomas. As you can see, there are still people who appreciate what you do and have respect for it. Keep that in mind, always! And be sure that people will buy it when it's out (and that goes for all new software for OS4)

Thanks Hyperion!.........and Perhaps you will make a little money too! :-)

Since April 1999 Hyperion have been involved with the Amiga platform.
To some this might not seem like a very long time, but the amount of things Hyperion have done for Amiga since then is unquestionably good ;)
And OS4 has to be there best achievement yet.
Thanks hyperion!
Without you, the Amiga wouldnt be moving forwards and would be just left to wither and die.
-
I am proud to be the first visible Amiga Inc. personnel to join this topic and give my congrats and my appreciation to Hyperion.
Hats off to Ben, the Friedens and everyone else at Hyperion. Guys, here's to you :pint: you deserve it, keep up the great work!

@HMetal
Where's my T-Shirt? I want something while I'm waiting!
Seriously, yes it was a nice interview on amiga-news.de, and I'm glad to hear that they are continuing work. The folks at amiga-news.de really work hard to get their interviews, and I think they deserve a round of applause as well!
Now, mr. amiga-server-guru, apply your pressure to those guys@the.office.com , and get us our T-Shirts!

I couldn't agree more with Kay. Hyperion deserve our sincere thankyou's. Not only for the current dev work on OS4. But also their undying commitment to Amiga software. I hope that soon we will be congratulating them on a job well done with OS4.
Here's to you Hyperion. Keep the dream alive.

Hmm, well I didn't know the topic existed as I usually pick interesting-looking threads out of the list on the main page, and rarely search through the forums for them.
But since I now know about it, I would like to add my congratualations to the list. Hyperion have done nothing but good in a very difficult (small) market, and I don't think anybody else would have done such good work on low-level components of OS4 such as Exec (well, ok, I haven't really seen much of it yet, but it certainly sounds good, and the tech talk from the Friedens inspires confidence that it will live up to expectations). So, well done! I look forward to running OS4 on my AmigaOne.
Chris

Count me in too, and yes i'll surely be buying OS4.0 when it hits the street. And hopefully have an AmigaOne to install it on.
-
yeah, they ported quake2 so they are nice guys!
DOH!.. typical me...
ok, seriously, of course hyperion has put their heart into the amiga, hope they never stop doing stuff for our miggy...
i was always happy with what they archived, looking forward to see os4, as i know it will be fantasic....
-
They are appriciated more than they know. Thank you, from all of us, to all of you.
I had written AI a little while back and Bill actually responded. This is one thing that I have always loved about this community. More than friends, were family. Nice people all around. :smack:

If you are reading this... Hyperion.... A sincere thankyou.
They have the talent that Amiga neads.
If they ported Mozilla / Open Office etc.
I would be more that happy to pay for it as it would be a quality product.
I hope that eventually they have the resources to expand and we get regular game releases and they get the financial rewards they deserve.
