Title: Setting Up PPC
Post by: Robert17 on December 22, 2004, 10:07:19 PM
Hey all, I think I mist be doing something wrong whilst setting up my PowerPC bits, since I can't get any programs to work with graphics...Like Freespace or The PPC port of ADoom, they have exceptions or lock the machine up.

Can someone tell me which files I need to install and where to get it working properly?

Thanks

Robert

A few questions that will help others to help you :-)

What PPC card do you have and how is the card configured (memory, speed, waitstates etc.)?

Is the thing adequately cooled?

Which version of the OS is installed, what patches (if any) and what PPC kernel (PowerUP or WarpOS) are you using?

What graphics system are you using? Do you have a graphics card, and if so, what kind and connected via which bus?

For example, I dont know about all cards but the BVisionPPC/CVisionPPC, for example don't put their memory regions into areas normally accessible to exec, so you need to set the graphics address used by warpos manually. For these cards it is $e0000000.

Well I have OS3.9 installed, nothing special... I have WarpOS installed... I think, the graphics are Via a prometheus board, the accelerator is a CSPPC 233/66, ppc heatsink is original but I have changed the fan, 128mb ram, picasso 96... think that's it!
