This may be a bit strange, but I would like to get some feedback from other Amiga users worldwide. I read just before a guy saying that he is surfing the net on his A2000 and having fun. Not just using an appliance like his electric shaver.
I have both an A4000T and a pc. I recently upgraded my pc memory and a few other things. It was nothing special me, just an appliance upgrade, so to speak. The pc I use and I do play a few games on it also. But my heart isn't in it.
If I can give an example here. I am in my late 20's and rarely have excitment outbursts as I did when I was a kid. But everytime I get something for my Amiga, I really look forward to getting it and using it. I feel excitment as I did when I was a kid?!
Another example is playing Quake. I have never had any interest in playing Quake on the PC, however I have played it numerous times on the Amiga. I cannot explain it. The Amiga has a real sense of quality and worth about it.
I myself love the classic systems and will continue to buy hardware for the classic systems. Everytime I turn on the Amiga, I feel a sense of connection and quality. It's software is not just reliant on the hugh cpu power as the pc is, it is made specially for the features of the Amiga.
I continue to use the Amiga to this day and it has been a great system. I am not one bit put off with the closure of Amiga companies or discontinued support. There is enough hardware and software out there to keep me happy.
I would like to say to other Amiga users out there this, we all know the Amiga and what it stands for. I would like to see all of us continue to use our classic systems for some time yet. There is plenty of hardware on ebay and for sale in our local areas.
I have friends often question me on the amount I spend on my Amiga. I admit I had a big outlay but I have not had to continuely upgrade as I have with my pc. I say that if you love your Amiga as much as I do, forget what others say, at the end of the day if your happier turning on your Amiga then a pc or mac, then stick to your passion!
I have never met such a close community as the Amiga one. We have all stuck together and helped each other out through the years and this website is evidence of that. We all own a part of the Dream that was the Amiga, please don't give it up if your heart is in it.
I hope you all don't think this is too long winded. I would like to hear from people who think the same?
Comments?
-
That's why they call it a community, dude! :-D
To bad it's about to break... :-(
-
Strange, but IMO true :-)
The Amiga has always been a "fun" system - the whole way it works is so well tuned. I recently bought a 1.1Ghz Athlon system (before i'd managed with a 486!). I'm now getting an A1200 - but I'm looking forward far more to that.
The Amiga community is also different from users of other OSes - Windows doesn't really have a "following", just users. Neither does Apple (though less so). Linux might have a big community, but everyone is only interested in programming.
Here's to the Amiga :pint:
-
It's funny, but true. The spirit of retrocomputing is akin to being a kid again. You have huge corporations advancing more modern platforms for you... No sport.
Amiga is driven soley by its fanbase... Its community.
Whether it's the old stuff or the new stuff, or somewhere in between... We love our Amiga.
-
@Corrie
I loved the sentiment in your post... It was people like you (and My friend Ian) that got me interested in Amigas. I never owned or used an Amiga and the enthusiasm I felt from people like yoursef prompted me to experiment with 'Amiga Forever" emulation.
I now have ordered a AmigaOne and am awaiting the release of OS4.
@Whabang
You must be a sad and grumpy old man to rain on this persons parade like that...
I find this sort of open enthusiasm refreshing myself...
Regards
Darren

The feeling certainly is unique. I remember how i felt getting my microbotix 1230XA, genuine excitement. Theres still alot of that feeling about when i plug the a1200 up to the TV for a bout of killing game show etc, infact even just moving files around and organising the directories???
@Whabang. the cummunity breaking apart? no no no, indeed, yes we are about to shed the rif raf from the community (from both sides) because of the MOSS issue, and im glad for it. Because once they have gone, we will have a united common goal again, and i would think/hope that the size of the community will increase and be more dedicated than we have seen for quite a few years. No more pathetic bickering, or both sides slinging mud for no real reason. Its coming, and it shouldnt be long. I think youll find the day that os4 is released will be the catalyst. Im thinking intense but short lived flame wars will burn us all a little, but soon after the two communities will seperate forever. There's nothing wrong with either community by themselves, its not until they come together at the same place that it starts to get hostile. Its why i think that seperation is the best/only option.

teotwin wrote:

How very true! When I purchased an old A2000 a few weeks ago the first thing I did was just play around with my icons and directory structure... and that was for about an hour.

Despite the power, popularity an products, I just can't get excited about PC's or even macs. I work at PC's all day. Boring, souless things they seem.
But when I get home, no matter what I plan, there's an inevatability that by the end of the evening, I end up infront of my miggy and have some fun. Be it art, music coding, it all starts there. My PC just sits and gathers dust, except when work forces me to power it on.
-
For me its the same like for Karlos :-)
(I'm PC Technician)
For me also the AMIGA is the way to go...
I will never give up using my Classic Miggy
because its fun...
And I like to see other people also doing so...

@Corrie
Man, that was a good post!
I first got interested in Amigas in 97 after meeting a guy on a training scheme, after that I never looked back (ok, I use a pc to surf the net, but that's about it). :-D
Yesterday I got a tower for my A1200. I'm really excited about it, I started to put everything together until I found out that I didn't have my drill :-?
I'll be getting back to it this afternoon to finish the job. It's just a pity I haven't got a new accelerator yet.#, hopefully getting it next week.
Man, I haven't felt this good in ages! :-D
Hey, just noticed I'm now a Technoid! :-D :-D
-
Well, when I get mine in.
AmigaOne/OS4 that is.
I'm going to spend about a month rediscovering the inner workings of the OS.
I've forgotten too much over the last year or two.
Then after I understand everything again, I just might try my old hand at programming once again. (something that I said I would never do again)
-
I don't know why but I always feel excitement and more inspired and creative using the Amiga whereas using the PC is just dull.
There's something about the Amiga, that I can't put my finger on.
-
It seems that all true Amigans have the same feelings its hard too explain but it feels good I have an imac and a new ibook was content using them lately but only cause was having trouble on internet now i have IB2.3 thank god i only use my A1200 ppc/210/060/50/grex/voodoo3/3000 and it is the quickest on the net now its exilerating my 11 year old comp still kicks ass
-
This thread is why I've been waiting on OS4.
Couldn't imagine having that feeling on Morphy.
But to have the true Amiga OS in my control.
man...
Just can't talk about it without getting all teared up.
-
Hoya!
@Corrie
GREAT! I DO agree with you!
It's refreshing to see there are still REAL Amigans out there!
In my humble opinion, you are the perfect incarnation of the dream Jay
Miner had when he and his maverick team created the incredible
machine! :-)
Respect.
Be funky

i work away from home at the moment
but theres no bigger urge to get back
home and stick my new bits on or play
with the new software i orderd for my
a1200 :-D
just call me Sadhead if you want
-
@MAD
the dream Jay Miner had when he and his maverick team created the incredible machine!
Hmm well put. We may not be able to accurately define the feeling, but perhaps we gan give it a name? The Jay Miner factor??? After all, its the result of his dream that we feel, "Ecstacy through technology..."
-
oh I do like this thread :-) You all sum up my feelings perfectly, I dont think I could ever switch to another platform and continue to do the things I do on the miggy, It just wouldnt be fun anymore. Rock on all of you :-)
-
Hoya!
@Teotwin
Very nice one!
"The Jay Miner factor" sounds dead cool!!!
I believe his goal was to reach the GOOD side of technology, that is creating a technical object which would ACTUALLY enhance its owner's life.
PeeCees are exactly the opposite!
OK, they play MP3z, m0V!3z and so on...
But when using one of those creatures, one feels (I know, I do) alienated, deprived of pleasure...
To put it bluntly, using a pc is having sex with a third-class prostitute, while using an Amiga is spending an evening (and a night ;-) ) with an as intelligent as gorgeous escort girl ;-)
Amiga -Nothing Beats the Real Thing- :pint: ;-)
Be funky!

Corrie I couldnt agree more. Its nice to see younger people in the day with an interest in the Amiga with all the new stuff comming out. I only 29 and got an Amiga back when the A1000 was realesed. I've never felt the same way about using any other computer. The money that has gone into my A3000 would never be put into a PC to upgrade it. The last few PC systems I've had I gave away and just got a new one.
-
Thank you to everyone that replied. I was absolutely thrilled to see all the responses. I no longer felt strange when I described the excitement I felt when getting something new for my Amiga. It was great to see others experience this too. You know, as I get older, I reminisce about my childhood. The first thing that pops into my mind is the day I used up my childhood savings and bought an Amiga 500 pack for around US$600.
I remember taking it home and the excitement I had when I got some of the games for it. A friend of mine had an IBM XT running at 14Mhz from memory. His computer cost him twice as much and was absolutely useless. He used to play games on it of the worst quality. And here I was on the Amiga 500 playing great games like Beast and Supercars. There was simply no comparison.
I remember how I used to meet with friends on the weekends and we would all have our Amigas there, checking out new programs, games and so forth. It was a real sense of membership. If you had any questions or problems, your local Amiga mates were sure to have someone who could answer them. I used to look forward to the weekends so much.
Even now, when I turn on my Amiga, as it boots up (which is only around 4 seconds!) I get flashbacks from all those fun times I had with the Amiga. I get a feeling of real worth and a feeling that I have a real hobby. It makes me feel even better when I see places like this on the web where our dreams are kept alive and Amigans from all over combine to hold onto our dream that noone can take from us!
You will all be pleased to hear, that even to this day I have managed to convert or atleast get other friends interested in the Amiga, They may keep their pc for work, but they have bought an Amiga to learn and have fun on. Even if we had two friends each that did this, think of the increased sales of OS3.9 and other important software for the Classic systems. The Amiga is certainly not over!
To all of you out there who continue to feel the sense of worth when you boot up your Amiga, don't at any stage question yourself about the costs of it, or should you be spending the money on a pc etc. If you are happy and playing the Amiga gives you enjoyment, stick with it. Why change when you are happy? That is all that matters!
Good luck Amigas Worldwide!
-
This may be a bit strange, but I would like to get some feedback from other Amiga users worldwide.
I truthfully and honestly agree with you there. I love my Amiga and use it every day for about 1-3 hours, be it e-mail, irc, www, php etc and I enjoy every single moment of it. I love the community and cannot imagine to place myself somewhere else in the digital world. Thank you all for being part of my life.
-
Amazing!
There is no way I could have put that eloquently Corrie!
I have a maxed out A1200, and have just ordered aa A3000 from 64 and More Store.
I got into Commodore stuff when my brother bought a C64.
After that I bought an A500, an A1200, and several more Commodore machines.
I left this stuff behind for years, only to find that something was missing.
Yes, the PC's are fast and have almost unlimited programs to run.
But, these programs are all the SAME!!
If you know how to use one Windows app, they all work and look alike.
I love Aminet. It is unsurpassed in the PC world!
Keep the faith!!
-
Man, I have tried countless times to put the 'Jay Miner Factor' hehe, into words. To articulate the sensations and enthusiasm one feels when using this amazing machine is almost impossible. Mind you all the software devs in the day, contributed immensly to this 'feeling'. Their products had soul. And funny enough, my guess is that the Amiga inherently has a certain something, that is still novel, even in this day and age. It was certainly groundbreaking in its heyday.
And you know what? It matters little, that PeeCees have caught up and now boast the latest gfx capabilites or the highest Ghz, its still just a revamped electronic typewriter from the 70's juiced on steroids. The marriage between h/w and s/w was sheer bliss on Amiga, meanwhile PeeCee's have struggled for long years to reach what amiga had a decade ago. And they still haven't made the right connections. The PeeCee feels so labored so forced on the user, its not sublime like Amiga. Its latest and greatest h/w, still doesn't make up for the flawed OS designs and basic computing philosophies that plainly and utterly suck to this very day. Whenever I want to do something, I end up frustrated and empty. Its not my way, its the m$ way. Amiga was never about imposing itself on the user, and that just rocks! And its this very reason we love our miggy's.
Jay Miner did it right the first time, with his little team, he realised a dream, and his dream still lives on in every one of those white and beige keyboards out their that still bear the amiga A logo. Everytime an Amiga fires up in the morning, somewhere in the world, its like a defiant cry against the dominant standards like m$, apple and linux. Its like the battle of the Alamo, we are the last remaining soldiers in a hopeless battle against market forces that try to drive us in their direction, but we will never falter, never retreat nor surrender.
Maybe one day this discovery we all made years ago, about the Amiga being the only computer with spirit, will finally be discovered by the average joe on the street that is fed up with m$, maybe by the time of the A2 and OS5, who knows.
But one can certainly dream!
-
Maybe, if we figure out what it is, the magic will die.
For me, it's as close to having a friend, that isn't a human, as you can get. It won't argue with you, and it obeys you. And you don't have to worry about its' feelings being hurt, or an "owner/slave" ethics dillema. It will do your bidding. I tworks the way you want it to. Easily put a script or program together to do something.
With the pc I have, I'm just waiting for, and dreading at the thought of, the next inconvenience to show up, as it inevitably does.
Amiga! Peace, man!
-
I just wanted to add, even when my A2000 Gurus, sometimes it can be quite funny, hasn't happened on my P4 w98se yet, BSOD hasn't amused me even once, they couldn't even get THET right.
Amiga! "Haha's to the last drop!", muses Amy the mascot.
-
For myself I have a maxed out A1200T it's on 24/7 (Running OGR-25 for
RC5 Team Amiga)
I use it all day from Email (Simplemail) and Voyager to surf the web.
(upgrading to IBrowse Soon)
The PC nearby is also on 24/7 but it's used only for the occassional
bit of Web Authoring and Folding@home (something missing on the Amiga)
Do you know, Considering I have an Internal fan inside the Miggy in
addition to the one on the PPC card, the Amiga is dead quite in
comparison to the Athlon box nearby. My God, Am I standing near a vent
or something?

I don't know about everyone else here, but reading the posts on this thread gets me right here.
Almost brings a tear to the old eye.
It's kinda like an atmosphere.
A sphere of community spirit if you will.
Awesome!

Ebay Germany Amiga (http://listings.ebay.de/aw/plistings/list/category8141/index.html)
Speaking of the Amiga and our hardware, have many of you checked out Ebay Germany for Amiga stuff? The above link is to the Amiga section for sale. They have on average around 1500 Amiga items for sale. Alot of Amiga hardware that you are after is here and if you email most of the sellers, they are happy to send overseas for those of you outside Germany.
I really felt that this was appropriate to add here, as Ebay Germany seems to be busting with Amiga products. It is a fine example of how Amigans getting together can create an impact. There is all sorts of hardware there from alot of the best German hardware companies. Have a look and you will understand what I mean.
Lets keep the classic systems alive!

The part about some dude surfing the web on his A2000 could've been me, maybe it was, but the point is, the Amiga is as much FUN to use now, as it was back with the A1000. Can't tell you the last time I felt as if I'd had FUN with my PeeCee. Like using the coffee maker in the morning, just an appliance. One other note, I really enjoy hearing people tell how much they love their Amiga's, and they're only in their 20's. My first Amiga was purchased when they were being born! This is why the Amiga refuses to die, new people are discovering it all the time. Sure says a lot about the platform, does'nt it. :-P :-P :-P
-
In 1985 I was only 9, and still in awe over my first glimpse of the C64 (since Atari 2600 was the best gfx I had ever seen since then). But I didn't know about Amiga back then. It wasn't until early '87 that I witnessed the sheer power of the A500 at a friends birthday, lucky bastard! lol.
Of course being only 11 by then, I had to save all my pocket money for the next 2 years, before I could afford my own miggy. Best thing I ever did!!!
As you can imagine, it was a painfully slow 2 years. Going to friends houses just to get a hit of Turrican, Silkworm or Dogs Of War was the only way I could manage my miggy withdrawals. Eventually seeing Street Rod showcased at a big department store was the last straw. I had to have it dammit. Finally in the xmas of '89 my dreams came true. The most amazing thing was that in almost 3 years my resolve had only strengthened.
Amiga has to have been the thing I have desired the most in my entire life. It even boggles my mind today when I think about it. I wanted this system so badly and waited so patiently for 3 years to finally have it - I had never done that until then or since. I have never ever wanted anything so badly! Usually I would see something that caught my eye, like a new bike, an electric guitar, Sega Megadrive/Genesis or a girl, lol! But none of those things held my interest for more than a few moments, before putting them on the backburner. But not Amiga, nuh-uh.
Where has my passion gone since then???? Even when I last broke up with my gf who I loved very much, I got over it very quickly. But the Amiga is a different story altogether. I don't think I will ever get over it! lol!
Girlfriends come and go, but the Amiga is forever!

Im 20 and im a hardcore Amiga'n.
I use it in -all- times possible. (10hours/day)
several people want me to quit it,
and start using a "real" computer.
I do all that my creative mind desire,
draw,code,play...etc etc, and so on... ;)
8
I tried (W word) in-depth for some months,
but I had to stop because of all the
snaily speed of the OS and not to mention
all frustration and headaches in my head.
I luuuve 68K Amiga
I luuuve Workbench
I luuuve Aminet
I luuuve Jay Miner
I luuuve Commodore
I luuuve my 1260T
I luuuve AGA
I luuuve anygirl who loves the same. 8D

I feel exactly the same. I don't even mind the crashes which inevitably happen on this patched, home-grown old A1200 - they just seem like interesting missions. I half expect to come home one day and find that the missus has trashed it cos I spend too much time just sitting here doing mundane tasks (except she uses it nearly as much as me nowadays - YAY!)

Hehe, I guess finding a girl that likes Amiga let alone used one, is like finding a needle in a haystack x1000.
I once met a girl really into BeOS and a frequent Unix and Linux user, she really knew her stuff too! And was a lifeguard at my local beach. Wow what a sweetheart. She really opened my eyes (I mean with her knowledge... oh and the other stuff too, when we got to know each other better, lol!) I got her into Amiga eventually and she really couldn't believe how she missed that whole Amiga scene (too busy with her mac and unix manuals in the 80s, sheesh) believe me she was kicking herself over it. Told me how her blockhead brother got her into mac computing and how she was told it (mac) was the pinnacle of modern computing, and how different things would have been if she had learnt about Amiga in the 80s or early 90s.
Suffice to say, she's a happy little Amigan now. But yeah girls and Amiga are a rarity, especially those that are as passionate as we are about our miggy's. But I do believe there might be at least one on these forums. Now what was her name again....hehe
-
What i love about my Amiga
1) switching of at anytime, don´t have to shutdown just look at HD-ligth
2) My 7Mhz A500 is faster than any Winslow 1GHz pc at least when using the userinterface :-)
3) No whining from my amiga computer, the PC constantly whines(big noisyfan)
-
@artman
Yes it was you I think, that was talking about the Amiga not being another appliance. You sumed it up in one. The Amiga to me has been almost a religon. I simply cannot let go of it. Without it, I feel lost and a real sense of joy is missing.
Someone mentioned Aminet before and I would have to say that Aminet has been a huge part of the Amiga also. I love searching the Aminet stuff and finding useful little programs that some Amigan has spent his time compiling. What is even better is registering the program and getting an email from the very grateful creator of that program.
To me, the Amiga has shown me great friendship and a sense of the human spirit, in that we have all pulled together to help each other out despite our diverse backgrounds. Nowhere else on earth have people been so eager to help out another person who they don't even know, just because they share the same dream, the dream that is the Amiga!
An example of this, back in 1994 I had a spare DKB Megachip (the 2mb chipmem module for Amiga). I found a guy in the USA who was after one and we exchanged a few mails through fidonet from memory. As a result I ended up sending him the megachip free of charge, just to help him out. In return he sent me out a PCMCIA modem that I was after, also free of charge.
There is no way that I would have done this for a pc user or mac user. I cannot describe the feeling, but I felt right in doing what I did. I remember making many Amiga friends worldwide and they have since become trusted friends, even though some of them have left the Amiga nowdays. However we all still share that common compatibility and we all know that each one of us would be there in an instant to help each other out. It is a true feeling of friendship.
One of my close friends is also into the Amiga much as I am. We often meet up and discuss different things about the Amiga and check out the latest news on the web. If we have any problems with our systems or questions, we are always on the phone to each other. At times we reminisce about the older days on the Amiga and put in some old Amiga Format CD's to look at on the Amiga.
We do not care that companies have left the Amiga, nor do we care about the discontinuation of the Classic Systems. We have alot of fun on the Amiga and we both get excited when one of us gets some new hardware or software. This is a real friendship and one that I hope to enjoy for many years to come.
Since posting this forum 2 days ago, I have just bought a new Amiga Technologies 4000T, so its on its way as we type! I don't care that it costs alot and I feel a sense of worth and warm inside, knowing that no matter how the world is changing, the Amiga will always live on in my household and my knowledge of it, will be passed onto the younger members of my family!
I love the Amiga fellow Amigans and I cannot just leave it to die. I will always support Clickboom and other software companies where I can. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone of you that has added to this forum. I admit the response has been fantastic and I feel completely in my element to be here! If any of you have that same feeling about the Amiga that you cannot describe, such as myself becoming excited over getting new Amiga stuff, much the same as a child the night before Christmas, then express your feelings here! Put your thoughts in words and your words onto Amiga.org!
Take care all of you!
-
@ Corrie:
;-) I remember reading a letter in an old Amiga Format magazine, back in the day. The fellow who penned that missive put it better than I could, and his words apply to my situation, -except that I own several- so I'll pinch them and paraphrase them to share here.
"I've spent more money on [them] than I care to admit, and I've taken [them] apart more times than I've had hot dinners."
 And it brings a sentimental tear to my eye too, sometimes.
 (Windows brings tears to my eyes more often, but they aren't sentimental...)
-
@Corrie
Here here!!! I had a day off work the other day, a rare occurence! What did I do? I spent the day on my amiga, writing mods, compiling screenshots and playing Genetic Species!!!!
Sod the other formats, I use a PC for surfing the net just cos its practical - I use a PC at work we use an NT network but thats as far as it goes.
I`m an Amigan thru and thru, I still enjoy the buzz and excitement of using a system, even though its 10 years out of date. Its odd, some people would say strange, but its what us nutty Amigas are all about.
I can`t ever see me getting this affectionate about another system ever again, and that includes my A1
-
Corrie, you describe the exact reason why I'm still here...
-
Hello Corrie and thanks! That's exactly how I feel! I baught my first Amiga 1987 and it was an A500. I had allready seen it over at some friends and thought that it was the coolest computer ever built. So when I finaly baught it it was all about playing games :o) . Me and a friend used to visit a cousin of mine to play games, make music, copy programs and just having fun.
Then in 1992 (I think it was) my cousin was going to upgrade the chip memory which ended up with a broken motherboard :o( . By then I had baught a harddrive, more memory, x-drive and so on. So he offered to buy it from me and so it was. It really broke my heart! So I went a year or so playing with my old C64 and I can tell you that it wasn't quite the same :o) . A friend of mine felt sorry for me so he borrowed me his A1200 :o) . So 1993 came up and I was longin for the A4000. Damn it was cool! I had to have it. I really missed my Amiga so much. And guess what? I baught it! Happy happy me :o) . An I'm still using it.
I have baught a PC during this time, allthough I waited for as long as I could before I did it. My girlfriend wanted one and I couldn't access some pages on the school-site with my amiga so I didn't have much choice :o( .
As you can guess I hardly use it but my girlfriend is very happy (she's strange ;o) .
I must say that I'm geting that feeling back from the good old days when I read about AOS 4! It will probably not be exactly the same but the feeling will surely be there and it will be much improved. It will be like when I baught my A4000 back in 1993. I can't wait! :o)

Well , what can I say , it's been 3 years since I played my Amiga , then one day I thought I'd do a quick search on the Amiga on the net and I found this place . Amiga died in Australia in about 1994 and since then it's been a down hill slide .
I remember Amiga owners were a tight group of people at school . 1 guy would buy the game and then the rest of us use to copy it . That way we could get so many games it was amazing . There were always new ones coming out . I wish those days could come again ! I have a PC which I hate , and an X-box which will never have the same appeal as the Amiga . It so sad that the Amiga didn't take over the PC Worldwide . At one stage in Australia late 80's early 90's Amiga had more games than IBM , more programs and a larger user interface . Now , well , its dead and u can virtually get an Amiga for free . I really wanna start building my game collection again . And get the ball rolling again for Amiga users in Australia ! Long live the Amiga !

...At one stage in Australia late 80's early 90's Amiga had more games than IBM , more programs and a larger user interface . Now , well , its dead and u can virtually get an Amiga for free .
:-? You don't see any "cause and effect" relationship, here? All of the "free" copies of games contributed heavily to the Amiga's demise.
 I hope those days don't come again.

I have both an A4000T and a pc. I recently upgraded my pc memory and a few other things. It was nothing special me, just an appliance upgrade, so to speak. The pc I use and I do play a few games on it also. But my heart isn't in it.
Spooky, I wrote a very similar thing a while back...

Now , well , its dead
Oh no it isn't :-)
Why not get Amiga Forever, or even an A1 and OS4 and see how the platform is still alive.
But please don't even think of copying stuff - with a small userbase, everything makes a big difference. Let's support Amiga developers and keep the (boing) ball rolling!

Having read most of this thread today, I was enlightened by the sheer volume
of emotion that seemed to be present. For me, whose Amiga "they" can only
take from my (c)old rotten hands, there is perhaps less of that, but
9 years of a "closer relationship" is a relatively short time, in these
parts anyway. Which reminds me that it's Paula who has kept me company
through it all, also after adding PCI. I'm tempted by the current PPC offerings
(eg. Eyetech). Goes without saying though that I won't give up the old
system as long as I can keep it running. Hopefully soon, I can keep it more turned off as opposed
to now.
Let's support Amiga developers and keep the (boing) ball rolling!
I agree, but I don't have PPC hardware so it may be difficult to decide on a
major software purchase - are remaining developers going the AMIGA way?

Corrie, you describe the exact reason why I'm still here...
As with all of us my friend... the Amiga really symbolizes the true meaning of the word "community". I am really thankful that companies such Hyperion and Clickboom continue to make quality software for our beloved machines.
I would easily remain an Amigan to support just two companies, to ensure financial backing in the future.
The achievements that the Amiga has made are unbelievable at times. Take for example the clockport of the A1200. Who would have thought when the A1200 first hit the market, that in future times, users could run high speed serial and parallel ports from it? Or run a 16bit soundcard!!
Another example, take a look at games such as Quake and Doom, all these games were classed as complex 3d gaming and pc users laughed when they thought of Amiga being capable of running them. But look how we proved them wrong! The Amiga would have to be the master of adaption! Our developers (hardware and software) have utilised the Amiga to the maximum, in that they have adapted its versatility to our benifit.
Overall I believe strongly in the Amiga spirit, how many of us honestly over the latter years have thought it may be the end for the Amiga and then to prove us all wrong, someone or some company comes along to give the Amiga a boost or another breath of life! The Amiga is certainly a survival platform and I am positive that it will endure times to come.
We all need to joins hands and support those who offer us a chance to hold onto our dream. We have much to be happy about, we are all users of the greatest computing system that the world has ever seen and saying that, we could do no better, then to offer our full financial support to those companies offering to sacrifice the seduction of entering the pc market, and providing a less profitable service to all of us, by continuing to release products for the Amiga.
Let me put this idea forward to you all, if I may? How would the response be to companies such as Hyperion and Clickboom having donations available on their sites through PayPal? I personally would have no problems in donating a US$1 to the company and if all of us did this, I am quite sure it would impact positively on the Amiga community. The donations would be for the development of new Amiga software/hardware only. It may be a silly idea or dream, but what do you all think?

I would like to add further to the previous posting. If there is other people who think this would be of some benifit, what comapnies do we all think should have an "Amiga Donation" on their webpage?
If we have a few representatives of various Amiga companies on Amiga.org, please response with your thoughts on this? Could we make this work? I will happily start it off by donating US$2 to 15 Amiga companies for example.
Any further comments?
