Hello
I am very pleased that Wayne and Co. changed the Amiga.org layout and scheme back to the older one (much more simpler and suitable). But the only problem i am having is the avatar sizes. I am not sure if there is a real logic reason behind this (and whether it can be fixed), but the current avatar sizes are no bigger than postage stamps! Please go back to the old 120x120 / 160x160. I don't mean to sound like a scrooge by thw way :-D
Regards,
-
It was made smaller with regards to people on dial-up IIRC, which is a very valid reason IMO.
-
The real CU_AMiGA never complains about avatar sizes. What makes you so special?

Shut up.

Yes that seems a reasonable matter. But how long would loading these avatars take? Is there a way around it? Like the dial-up users can resize the forums or something? (Actually i feel sorry in particular for JonoPike, who has to put up with a 28.8k connection! lol)

Right. This topic has gotten out of hand (and it wasn't even me that started it this time!). So i am going to drop the bottom line to you (like i did with Wayne). You have all asked for this:
I am the REAL CU_AMiGA. And that is the bottom line, cos CU_AMiGA said so.
There. Let that be a valuable lesson to everyone who even thinks they can take on the Greatness that is CU_AMiGA.

@CU_AMiGA
Sorry... I have to agree with the management on this
one.........
I too am on DialUp (33k) and some of the GFX takes
forever to load. :-D
"Thanks" to Wayne for realizing not everyone has
BroadBand.

Yeah. I can see your point. Maybe an option for dialup users (image sizes, dithering, etc.). While others get the bells and whistles! :-)

I respect your opinion, and admire your persistence, but you need to learn to respect my opinion as well.
Which brings me to another question. Why should I believe that you are the real CU_AMiGA?

@x56h34
I don't know whats happened to you lately? You have truly lost the plot and fallen down the dreaded trap door. It seems to me that you keep stiring up crap (between me and Cyberus, and this thread). It wouldn't surprise me that it was you that emailed me as "CU_AMiGA" (considering i got emailed from him after 3 days when i meantioned i didn't hear a peep from him). Anyhow, it was me that had the last word in that arguement.
I am the same CU_AMiGA, who posted here a year ago and signed up. I am the REAL CU_AMiGA, and that is the bottom line again.
-EDIT-
How the bleeping helll are you respecting my opinion by posting "The real CU_AMiGA never complains about avatar sizes. What makes you so special?"?
-
To a possible CU_AMiGA:
I just like to know who I'm talking to when I'm posting in here. No disrecpect to you or the real CU_AMiGA, but it's impossible to tell at this point which one is real and which one is not. By reading the comments that you post, to tell you the truth, it just doesn't feel like it's the real CU_AMiGA that one is talking to. The wording and the style has radically changed, which again brings me to my question, which is...how do we know that you are the real one? Prove my doubts wrong please.

Honestly. I am the CU_AMiGA everyone knows one these boards. My posting style is the same. I i still help everyone out. I cannot think of any way to prove it. Sorry.
-
Anyway. Please get back on topic. I don't want this topic to get locked like the others. If anyone has any doubts about me, then please PM me, not this thread. Anyhow, would it be possible to impliment these options for dialup/broadband users?
Regards,
-
Alright. I'll keep my eye on you. We'll see. In 6 months, I may very well be convinced.
-
I am not sure how to impliment the thing to chose whether your on dialup or fast internet. Wouldn't be a bad idea to specify sizes, but the downside I can find is that you would have to upload 2 different avatar sizes, and one would be for dialup, and the other for broadband.
And in order to know what connection you have, you specify it on your user settings. :-D
-
Well what do you need a bigger Avatarsize for anyway ?
I think it would be stange if the avatar would take more room then the actual posting.
-
I don't mind the new size, although its scuppered me ever reusing any of the animated ones I made :-)
-
Doesn't the BBC website have these sort of features. I really like there layout. Really basic.
-
The BBC has plenty of developers to work on it. We have Wayne (and maybe a few others), his free time and a quirky content management system that seriously discourages modification of it's code.
Overall I'd say the site is cracking, moreso considering the tools.
@Wayne
I have written some image scaling code for php that might be useful (it also intelligently caches the resampled image on the server). It's yours if you want it.
-
Yes i agreee. Wayne and CO. have done a crackign job with the forums. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful ro anything. Just an idea.
-
Sure, I can fix the problem. I'll be more than happy to turn off avatar usage altogether. That'll help everyone.
I will not however be wasting a lot of time with writing additional code for the current system just so you can have a larger avatar while dialup users don't see them.
Can't someone for once have a real problem to complain about?
-
I just thought it would be a nice feature to have.
-
Don't take it personally or anything, I was just joking, as noted by the smiley. It is a complete waste of time to dedicate the large amounts of time to creating such a useless feature. Compared to a lot of sites, 90x90 is very, very generous. We're already at the limit for bandwidth allowed for our account, so every little bit helps.
With contributions to the site slowly shrinking, the idea of buying either a larger account or moving to a larger dedicated server simply isn't realistic. As such, I think we should all be thankful to do what we can...

My arse it's generous! On other sites i'm registered on, the sizes are about 120 x 120.
-
Others allow 50x50 and if you can't get one that small then tough luck!
90x90 is adequate without making things too slow for the dialup users.

I bet they don't let you have six dancing ponces in your signature though ;-)

How about you stick to those sites then?
-
Feel free to visit those other sites then. End of conversation, and thanks for opening a very old thread to run as a duplicate means of annoying everyone.
