Hello! :-D
To display a image on the `workbench` you need the .jpeg `driver` (datatype) there should be two datatypes.
One of them goes into...
Dev: Datatypes...........(look at the icon!)
and the other one goes into...
Classes: Datatypes....
You probably have a spare copy in your Storage: drawer.
But you can download the appropriate one from aminet
http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/ (http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/)
Have a look in the prefs: drawer and play around with the settings...To display pictures use Mutiview (found in Utilities: )
BTW ( `you guys` now includes you!)

;-) You could also use one of the free paint programs from Aminet to confvert the jpeg of your choice to an IFF file, which Workbench 3.1 expects. Alternately, you could upgrade to Workbench 3.9, or install Directory Opus Magellan II. These support jpegs without any conversion necessary.

Displaying a JPEG as a backdrop is no problem as long as you have the correct data type.
You should be aware of that IFFs display much faster, though.
As an example: I accidentally used a TIF as a background image once. Man that was slow! :-)

simply go here (http://www.nanunanu.org/~oliver/warpjpeg.html) and install the warpjpeg datatype. Actually while you're at it, install all the others as well (list on the left). As they're written by the guy who has written the datatypes for OS4, your certain of getting quality ;~)
