Well I just benched my newly acquired phase5 1260 , and syspeed gives me ~38.5mips on os3.9 ... should I also intall the drivers? Are there any newer versions anywere to download? Should't it measure ~60+ MIPS???? :-?

You can't compare MIPS numbers from different apps. They are NOT compatible.

SysInfo gives me about the same amount of mips where's the latest SysSpeed say about 65.

SysInfo was written before there was a 060 card for the Amiga, hence it thinks you have a 040 at 50MHz or so. Double the MIPS and that is about right for a 060.

ah, great :) Is there any need to install a 060 lib on os3.9?

I see no harm in doing it so go ahead and install the 040 and 060 libs from Phase5, download it from AmiNet (http://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/aminetbin/find?68060-V44_3.lha) (remember there should be a newer version somewhere but have forgotten the url and to be honnest it didn't change much of anything for me compared to the ones on AmiNet).

060 has two integer units - a novelty in 68k series.
Sysinfo uses just one integer unit when testing 060 while SysSpeed uses both - that makes the difference.

I just saw some screenshots from ELBOX with syspeed running on a 1260... for a 50Mhz version 38,5 MIPS is the normal, but the 66Mhz version gives ~52,7 MIPS... now come the big Q : can I overclock to that? I need more! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Perhaps, may depend on your SIMM quality. I run my B2060 at 57-60 MHz w/o problems, 64-66 MHz tend to freeze - may depend on the Zorro addon board.

DCE seem to have removed their Amiga files, we've been abandoned!
Really this should be uploaded to Aminet...
I think the latest version is 46.7 distribution and it works with
PowerPC's 68k side.
Beware though that the documentation advises not to use 3rd party
maths libraries like mathieedoutrans or whatever they're called as
they mess with the Phase5 code.
I think it's only the 68060.library, the '040 dummy and '040 new have
been updated. The Cyberpatcher program and accessories are the same.
After updating I noticed on SysSpeed that the v46.7 libraries were a
tiny bit faster in most memory and CPU/FPU tests!

It's a little confusing at first if you have a 68060.
Firstly, the standard Workbench will only have 68040.library if it's
3.0 or 3.1.
1. UnLHA the archive into RAM:
2. Go into your Workbench:Libs/ directory and rename the standard
68040.library to 68040old.library (it's old and no longer needed)
3. From RAM: copy 68040.library to Workbench:Libs/ and rename it
68040new.library (it's the new one with added vitamins!)
4. From RAM: copy 68040dummy.library to Workbench:Libs/ and rename it
68040.library (to trick AmigaOS into thinking it's the old library
when it's just a pointer to 68040new.library)
5. Copy over 68060.library as it is.
Now your old 1992 Amiga can use the 1995 68060!

you need to install the 68040.library (the dummy library) and the 68060.library, now the workbench load the 68040.library and is launched to load the 68060.library for enable all data/cache, if you have installed the original 68040.library (found it on os 2.0/3.0/3.1) you dont have all feactures of the 68060 chip.
The mips are for 50mhz 38cpu mips and 27fpu mips.
for 66mhz is 51cpu mips and 39fpu mips this test is with sysinfo

Do not use SysInfo for a 060!! It is wrong. The 68060 CPU does 80+ MIPS! SysInfo is for a 040 and below. It reports bad data for a 060. Grab MIPS from Aminet. I get 110 Mips on my 060 @ 66MHz...

Propper way to install libraries... Well... there's probably a docen... what ever works right? I sugest the following: Start the machine in 020 mode by holding "2" during boot. That way you don't have to worry about incompabilities and libraries missing etc... of cause you don't have extra memory either so boot into a CLI (boot with no startup sequence from Early Startup Menu (keep both mouse buttons pressed during boot)).
Follow the procedure already given:
1. Unpack the archive to RAM: (you should have about 2Mb unless you're using loads of partisions and/or high buffers in witch case you have to disable some/all but the system partision.)
2. Rename sys:libs/68040.library sys:libs/68040old.library
3. Copy ram:libs/68040.library sys:libs/68040new.library
4. Copy ram:libs/68040dummy.library sys:libs/68040.library
5. Copy ram:libs/68060.library sys:libs/68060.library
(replace sys in step 2-5 with the partision name of your system drive ex. DH0)
That should do it. Personaly I find this too much of a hassle with my two 060 machines at home so I created a special WB3.1 Install disk with the new libraries on it and just boot with that and just drag and drop the libs to sys:libs. ;-)

I doubt 80mips or 110 mips is proportional to other tests.
Both the `old' SysInfo and the relatively new and standard SysSpeed
MUIapp report the 68060 as somewhere in the 38-65 MIPS bracket.
The Blizzard 1260 is only about 4x faster than the Blizzard 1230 from
what I can make out, 2x as fast the Blizzard 1240T/ERC.
This can also be seen with framerate values in Doom, Quake etc. Quake
is obviously heavily enhanced for 68060 so can't be far wrong.
My favourite program used to be AIBB but that wouldn't recognise '060
so I tried SysInfo (the PAL only Aussie program) and now mainly use
SysSpeed.
SysInfo, although old, is still interesting for quick drive-speed
tests, SCSI chain viewing and general insights into the libraries etc.

according to what i found on the web, the 060/50 should do about 80MIPS, 060/66 110, 060/100 (yes!) - up to bout 160!.
anyone has blizz060 to sell? :)
i`d like one...

Is there a place to find a suitable 60-66Mhz oscillator ??? Here I can only find up to 10Mhz :pissed:

I would not recommend overclocking the 060, especialy not on the blizzard card with it's original CPU as that is the older and less heat tollerant XC060 CPU. If any I'd say tops 55-60Mhz and then you would need heatsink and fan. It's not a question about if it will work when you turn on the power, but if it will work when you turn on power a few months from now... Rather keep it at it's original speed and have a happy CPU cards for years to come than a 20% speed increase that will only last me a short while before BBQ.
I added feets and a custom trapdoor to my A1200 that offers great airflow and a heatsink for my Blizzard 1260 and it's not even overclocked... just to keep the CPU cool as happy as can be. :-)
I got a 55Mhz oscillator that's suits my machine fine BUT I don't find the speed increas worth the risk. I don't need the extra speed anyway... 060/50 is plenty fast enough for me... need more I just use the CSPPC equipped A4000T instead. ;-)

hmmmm you do have a point Brian... I really don't need the extra speed, just the extra mips drove me crazy... I'll leave it to 50mhz :-D btw, I have applied a heatsink on the cpu, no room for a fan though, due to my case... maybe I'll install one to blow at the 1260...
