About to get a BlizzardPPC (200mhz PPC, 25mhz 040) and a BVision for A1200 in Power Tower! :)
Want to know if there are any good car racing and space shooter games I can get off back2roots or aminet that I should start with that will use full potential of this equipment.
Thanks,
Neofree

no they're all commercial.. the only ppc/w3d games you can get for next to nothing are quake, descent, descent2, and duke3d..
-
Well Descent is one of the ones I'm interested in. Didn't know there was Descent 2. What about Freespace? Could care less about Doom or Quake. I know of XTreme Racing, I think it supports PPC, if not at least 040. I think Wing Commander II might support accel boards but cant remember.
-
Yeah I think the Friedens also made a port of Descent 2. In any case you will need the pc versions data files though. Xtreme racing is a very cool game(theres also a data disk which is also kewl), but it doesn't support anything other than 68k.. But unfortunately there's no amiga version of wing commander 2 IIRC. Freespace is available but its commercial and not on aminet etc..

Hi
ADoomPPC (on Aminet) is an excelent game for a PPC enviroment.
You need only the doom.wad file from the PC version.

Not what I know...
Having CSPPC and iFusion I've played Descent2 on emulated Mac - but no 3D acceleration; it looks ugly.

Hmm you're right, seems like the descent 2 amiga port was startet by steffen häuser but never got finished.

You have iFusion working? It emulates an imac right? Would you (in theory) be able to run osx on a csppc with it?(anyone tried that?) I know it would be slow as hell but it would be really kewl imho.

Thomas made an OS 4 port, but that's as of yet unreleased because it is still got some minor issues. I think Steffen also started a port ages ago but AFAIK he gave up on it due to lack of time.

iFusion doesn't work on the BlizzardPPC boards, although it was advertised as "it'll be ready soon!"...
Biggest waste of money in my entire life :pissed:

I doubt it; there isnt even enough memory free to run Os X. And IFusion struggles with memory, I think it can use MAC virtual memory just when under 64 MB physical memory is dedicated to the emulation.

Ah-hem. As the thread starter and Mac hater, I'll refrain from bashing Mac's, but can we please keep the thread on topic? :)

Save for MicroA1 imho
700¤ you have a miniitx and much powerfull Amiga than a 1200 with OS4. Freespace is released already native PPC and it is a nice space shooter :-)
A 1200with tower and PPC cost a lot, and it is old imho. It depends if you want to stick with classic and how much you pay for this configurations.
www.intuitionbase.com for many infos about AmigaOne and OS4, www.amigaworld.net for official forums. Manufacter and Amiga Inc webpages are pretty useless.... at least yet.

ikir:
I hear ya but I will spend most of my time using classic software... As more software is available for OS4 I'll be tempted to get better hardware, but at least I'll have something to start with. Hyperion will still get my $ for OS4 and that will help Amiga.
Thanks,
Neofree

I edited my prev message to be more informative :-)
OS4 has e-uae for old the old software also ecs and aga, it should be higly compatible, but i didn't tried it yet :-) And natively OS4 runs 68k code you need e-uae for legacy hardware.
The final version will be released for classic PowerPC, also for teh blizzard. SO you can run it on your the config you posted, but no release date yet and A1 is much more powerfull. If you have question contact me, see you :-)

Well maybe this will help you understand:
I am paying $340 for A1200 with BlizzardPPC.
And I'm paying 75EUR (around $100) for a BVision card.
So cost is almost half of A1. Right now would not be an easy time to go for the A1, I'd have to sell just about every computer item I own :(
