Title: Looking for ATX Case recommendations
Post by: SilvrDrgn on February 19, 2003, 01:21:12 PM
I'm looking for ATX case with power supply recommendations.  Particular colors I would like to have are black, silver or both together.  400W power supply included as minimum.  Anybody know where I can get a good deal on such a beast in the U.S. ??

Hi Michael, you might try Tiger Direct (http://www.tigerdirect.com). They have a good number of cases and are fairly reasonable. When i tried to go to their website this morning it was taking forever so I don't know if they are having trouble or not.

Found an all black one at TigerDirect.com for $39.99.  It was #3 on their current best seller list as of this morning.  Thanks for the help!

So why does everyone think they need a 400w power supply these days?  I would think a high quality 230w would be plenty?  Geez, I remember seeing XTs and ATs with over 80 DIPS of DRAM, several full-height 5 1/4" hard drives, and most expansion cards that made enough heat to warm a small country--all running perfectly with a 190w power supply...

 :-D

Better to have too much power available than not enough!   :-)

Depends on what kind of machine you are building. If you're building a AmigaOne machine with one harddisk and one optical drive, a 230w high quality psu might be good enough.

If you're going to build a PC with dual high-end processors, several 7200rpm harddisks, two or more optical drives, a GeforceFX, lots of case fans and other small stuff, a 400W drive would be essential.

I just did some reading, looks like an Athlon XP uses about 70W...so yea I see if you have a dual system with a bunch of drives it would require such power.  MAN, I can't belive modern CPU's use 70W of power!!!   :-o

Intel and AMD chips do.  PowerPC chips usually only use about half as much, if I remember right.

@SilvrDrgn

I have purchased two RaidMax cases for two AmigaXL machines that put together. The cases look great, all of them, however I went with the black case.

It has a side window, excellent cooling, a 350W power supply, two built in fans for intake and exhaust with five more spaces for additional fans if needed. The construction is excellent, they look really great, plus the power supply is of excellent quality.

Here is a link to a case like I bought, and I can highly recommend them.
