what's up
soooo i always wanted a bigbox amiga but they were too damn expensive... then an old friend appears from nowhere and says i can have his old A1500...
I would have liked a 3/4000 but beggars can't be choosers, what I'd really like to know is whether it's worth upgrading...?
At the moment it's unaccelerated (I think), has a tiny HD and OS 1.3. Heh!
(oh, be nice i had my heart broken this week  )

Nice :)
Now all you need is:
3.1 ROMS
A graphics card
and a 060 (which can be had at half the price of one for the 3/4k)
A decent scsi/ide controller.
There are some on-line shops still carrying items for the miggy. Check www.powerc.com, www.vesalia.de, softhut.com, kdh-datatechnick, or ebay.
As to whether it is worth the upgrading, I would say do it for the fun of it. Wont beat your average PC, but you can still get a good feeling from using a nice miggy.

cool thanks :)

Nice one. I used to have an A1500 once. It had a Zorro FF/SD card for PC monitors, a GVP SCSI card with a hard drive with some extra RAM, a keyboard operated ROM switcher (1.3 & 2.0 ROMS - no 3.x back then) and a Zorro card with half a meg of RAM which I'd salvaged out of my A2000 when it caught fire (damn PSU).
Best thing you can do is get a flicker fixer, a couple of 3.1 ROMS and a Bhudda Zorro IDE controller. You can then slap a nice big (cheap) hard drive in there along with a CD ROM.... and don't forget OS3.9.
I wish they had put the A3000 desktop in the same A2000/A1500 case. I hate having my CD ROM drive in an external case :-(
check out Eyetech.co.uk and PowerC.com for parts.

Ooooo! A 1500!
That was the first Amiga I ever saw. His has OS 2.1, and was running an 040, so I know they're expandable. Can't get PPC's for them, but hey, even an 060 miggy would be great to see running again.

@MrZammler
All 060-accels for the 2000 come with builtin SCSI (AFAIK),
which is quite logic when you remember the low bandwith of
Zorro2. A GFX-Card and the HD on Zorro will make even a 060
crawl.....

Crusty... er... I mean Kronos is right 060 cards for the A2000 family have HD controllers. More importantly they have space for ram that's much faster than anything rideing the Zorro bus. Most allow 128MB.
Instead of the Bhudda, check out Individual Computers other product, the CatWeasel. I don't remember ATM if the CW mark 3 has IDE, but the mark 2 has 2 IDE controllers plus allowing you to use high density floppies. You can also add on fast serial ports and some other stuff.
Here at work I have an A2000 that was bought in 1987 and has been giving regualr service to the U.S. Federal Governement for fifteen years now. It has a GVP-M 060 card which allows use of both standard sims & GVP's oddball ones. With 128MB of ram, OS 3.1, a Catweasel, ethernet & Video Toaster, that is one mean Amiga!
Good luck getting your system going! :hammer:
