Title: Broken pins on the mouse port
Post by: Gavilan on December 09, 2004, 08:21:30 PM
Hi!! i have just got a "brand new" A1200. Everything is almost perfect but...broken pins on the mouse port! Pins 1, 4 and 5 are badly broken. Im not good at soldering and that kind of stuff. Just would like to know if its possible to fix this and how to do it!

Cheers!

Sebastian

Is it a Commodore Amiga or an Escom Amiga? (What does the label on the bottom say?) If its a Rev 1d4 board, you can just plug in a new mouse port, cos its on a flying lead :-)

If the pins are totally broken, then you have to change the connector.
If they're just bent, then it's possible to carefully bend them back.

If everything else fails, there is a serial-mouse driver on Aminet.

Actually, they are not even bent but totally cut-off!
Its a revision 1d1 board, guess from the early commodore ones, right?
Is it possible to unattach the port and replace it? I have unplugged everything and checked, but i cant seem a way to take out the mouse port...its like glued or soldered i guess...

On that model of Amiga a1200, the mouse port is soldered to the board. It can be replaced, but with a soldering iron.

Your in luck that its only the mouse port. Its more or less a standard DB9 connector. You should be able to take it to a good electronics shop and have it repaired with little trouble.

half-broken pins on mouse/joy port seem to be common.
They can be easily replaced if you have solder wick, and especially if shield GND is not soldered, but fastened with screws.

Just get a soldering iron and DIY, its fun!  :-)
(of course, be careful not to burn anything)
