Title: soundcard for a classic amiga
Post by: Robert17 on December 08, 2004, 10:09:12 PM
Hey all, posted a topic earlier about the delfina, doesn't really sound like an option as I don't have any cards with clockports on, so what's the best Zorro soundcard you can get, that's available of course, I have a prometheus on its way but the drivers for sound arent ready yet, are they?

Zorro, eh?

From what I gather, the repulse is supposed to be pretty good. Not sure where you'd get one from though.

No and honestly the OpenPCI drivers will probably never come. However there may be some good news down the road for Prommy users.

Best sound card for you? Probably Delfina or Delfina Lite. Has Tocatta emulation for some specific apps that need it and hardware acceleration for MP3s, mpegs etc which is nice. Last time I used one the drivers had a annoying feature of a 'fake' crash requestor when using the DSP you had to just hide and live with, not sure if it's fixed or not yet.

I have a spare Prelude soundcard I'm not currently using.
http://www.amiga-hardware.com/prelude.html

Nice card and gives really good results.
AHI compatible and a number of programs support it directly without using AHI.

Excellent working condition.  Has cables, software and manual.

Email me if interested.

I was thinging about buying a Prelude myself but as it seems almost impossible to get hold of any expansion cards (MPEGiT or Arpeggiator) I never bothered. I will probably go for a Delfina Flipper instead.

The Delfina sounds like a good card, but how would I connect it to My A4000?

Get a Zorro card like Buddha Flash, Var I/O, or X-Surf that has a built in clockport and plug the Delfina into that.

Well I just bought a Buddha, and a Delfina amongst other things from Vesalia, seems a bit of a waste buying A buddha just for the clockport, but oh well!

Hello, I have posted this question in the other thread, but maybe
the attention is now on the new one, so I post again:

has the DElfina clockport the 1 x SPDIF connector?
I don't understand if the board has it or it was supposed to be provided with the flipper module, that never appeared.

anyone knows?

I'll let you know if it has Spdif on it when I get it, I think it is mentioned in the specs though.

No, the clockport card only has four inputs and one output (all analog).

Full specs (http://www.jschoenfeld.de/products/delfina_e.htm)

Is it possible to buy the Flipper module?
Someone wrote that it was never made, although
I found it in the KDH on-line catalog.
Other shops don't have it

doesn't the flipper module come with the delfina card?.. anyways I hope it comes with either a zorro connection or a clockport cable, since I bought a Buddha Flash specially to use it

All good info, but how do you physicaly mount the Delfina card in a case?

I have an A3000D with X-SurfII. I will be connecting it to the clockport.

Which begs the answer to another question. Does a clockport cable come with the Delfina or do I have to buy one?

From what I can see, this board does not have any means to physicaly mounting it!

I think it comes with the clockport cable, as for mounting I was thinking of something along the lines of a bit of metal and some sticky pads in one of the free slots

The card comes with a clockport cable but it is not very long, about 10cm. You have to use a bit of imagination since there are only two mounting holes on the card.

See picture here. (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/delfinaflipper_1_big.jpg) The connector on the far left is for the clockport cable. Also remember to plug in the cable the right way! The package has instructions included.

Looks like the best thing I can do is jig a piece of plastic to a blanking plate in the slot about the Buddha and do some sort of custom mount there, seems a little bit toytown lol, I just hope it's worth it!

Don't want to scare you Robert but I'm wondering how reliable this supplier Vesalia is? There website looks pretty professional and I'm tempted to buy a Delfina myself for just £90 compared to the original £250 the old Petsoff version went for. But I don't want to get scalped like those poor guys and the PPC scam. How soon are you expecting delivery and can you come on here and brag your ass when you get it! cheers

Well, it'll be in the new year I think, as I payed by paypal but had to use Echeque, as the £200 I spent wasn't enough to do a direct transfer apparently lol, I ordered a whole bundle of stuff so I'll let ya know how I get on.

I have ordered stuff from Vesalia a few times and the delivery is fast (about one week) if they have the items in stock.

Thanks for that reassurance. I've just looked at the jpg of the card posted above and the quality looks so much better than the original version - I'm very tempted now so I think I'll ask about stock and order myself a Christmas present if they have them.
