Title: Amiga and VNC
Post by: StormLord on December 06, 2004, 03:12:47 AM
Does anyone knows if the infamous ppc/warpos VNC server for amiga ever released ?
I'm using right now AmiVNC but even on a clocked 060 is slow.
And if you don't select on the client the right option you will end up with very strange colors and buggy refresh.
As for the colors in my amiga I use 16bit via Bvision with CGX4 and from the PC client I choose the option "any available colors" but the dispay looks like its been color downgraded.
also the amivnc verbose shows something about 2bpp and thats weird!
Any thoughts ?

Yes, AmiVNC is very slow, but there is avnc, which is much faster (however, it doesn't support ppc either).

VNC server for Amiga is hellish task, as there is no dedicated video memory in the system.
Polling the active screen is tricky, as the screen may be pushed back any time. As for AGA screens it can be even pulled down half the way, making visible upper half of the screen from behind (Yea, The wizard Copper can change the current display memory any time).

avnc was designed to use special feature of picasso96 and because of that simply does not work with CybergraphX. But the client avv (AmiVncViewer) from that page works really nice.

Cheers

I know of that matters I just hoped that a ppc version of the VNc server would make some things better.. as it will run on the secondary processor and the 060 will be freed by this task.. Well at least there is something working!
