I am now the lucky owner of an A1011 floppy drive. An ebay purchase I couldn't resist. I even got an Amiga mouse thrown in free. I was looking for one of those too!
Here's the issue: The no disk present click sounds as normal. However, when I insert a floppy it doesn't detect it too well. If I insert softly and exert some upward pressure on the disk, it is detected and will then read normally.
Anybody any ideas? I love to take things apart, but I'd hate to wreck this beautiful object. Thought I'd ask you guys first. Is it an easy drive to open and service?
Thoughts please!

I don't think you have to worry too much about wrecking it. As you got some experience opening other things just remember use causion and you should be safe. I don't own one though so I might be mistaking.

If the drive inside is broken, or you happen to wreck it trying to fix it, it's no problem, as it's 100% identical to the A500 internal drive.
I have taken my 1011 apart one time, it is really no big deal at all.

You can try to clean the insert disk detect pin first. What I did on my 3000T drive is spray the pin with compressed air real good and it worked! (on the little pin) I was all prepared to open it up and take it apart but this ended up doing the trick...
