Hi there
I've got a router to which I've connected up to now:
- Amiga A1200 using Genesis
- Desktop using Windows XP
- Laptop using Windows XP
The Windows-boxes connect to the net just fine. But somehow the A1200 doesn't do so well. I used to use ISDN on the A1200, but changed to ADSL some time ago. So now there is an ADSL modem followed by a router in the equation. Samba works fine both XP's can be seen, but firing up the browser or the e-mail client they do not understand where to look for the internet.
From the genesisPrefs
(Interfaces --> Interface)
A1200's IP-address is static (192.168.1.149)
Destination set to dynamic (dunno what it is for)
Gateway IP-address is static (192.168.1.1, this is set same as Windows' default gateway)
Netmask set to 255.255.255.0
(Interfaces --> SANA-II)
Device set to DEVS:Networks/x-surf.device
Unit set to 0
What should I change? Or what do you further need to know?
Regards

Domain Name Servers (in Resolv) are fairly important, i have three in there provided by my ISP. Seem to remember it didn't work when i forgot to put them there.

These places you should also check:
- Is there a firewall possibly blocking your Amiga/it's IP?
- Is your Amiga's static IP known to the Router and linked to it's hostname?
- Is the Amiga's IP in the range of hosts.allow on the router (or outside the range of hosts.deny)?
Using a different machine instead of the A1200, but using the same IP may also help finding the error.

* The router has a firewall built in, but should not harm the A1200.
* The A1200 can be pinged from either XP.
- Is your Amiga's static IP known to the Router and linked to it's hostname?
* Yes, the Amiga's static IP is known to the router, as it can be pinged from either XP.
* Where do I link it to its hostname?

* Yes, the A1200's IP address is within the range of allowed addresses of the router, as it can be pinged from either XP.

Personally, I think something in the Genises Prefs file is not correct, but then again who am I? This not meaning that I am suffering from identity crisis. No Sir, not at all! :-)
Thanks for your reply

I think Lurkist is correct. Check your DNS settings. If you have internal connectivity, but not can not resolve any named resources outside your firewall, usually one of the following is wrong: DNS, Subnet Mask, default gateway. Your gateway and subnet mask look standard.
DNS is what you need to check. Make sure you don't have an out-of-date static DNS set on the A1200. Or better yet, set up a new static DNS search order based on what your PC pulls down via DHCP.

and set the XSurf in half-duplex mode.
Env-Archive:Sana2/x-surf.config
Unit0.FullDuplex 0
Interface--->Sana-II under Configuration file.

@Illwrath & Framiga

mhhh . . .but the router has PPPoE inbuilt?
If not, download the PPPoE driver for the XSurf here:
http://siliconsonic.de/t/bin/dsl-rel2.lha
This archive (it has a good installer) will create a new interface called
"xsurfadsl" (and install the special appp.device and the xsurfadsl.device too)
Usually when a router is present, the ADSL modem become redoundant.
But i'm not 100% sure . . .sorry.
Bye
