Title: A2000 and HD 1.76 floppy drive
Post by: melott on November 16, 2004, 02:54:26 PM
Can someone tell me why a HD 1.76 floppy drive won't
work as DF1 ??
I have an DD 880 drive as DF0 and a HD 1.76 as DF1.
The HD 1.76 drive is not always reliable so I put
it at DF1.
I'm running OS 3.9 so I would think there would be
no problem. But it only see's DF1 as an DD 880 drive.
I guess I'm going to have to open the A2k up again
and move the HD drive back to DF0.

Anyone know why this is happening??

hmm.. I know that there is a jumper in the A4k that tells the computer if the DF1: is internal/external and if it is DD or HD.

might be something like this your problem is about. But i guess if you can't tell the A2k that the internal DF1: is a HD drive it will only use it as a DD drive.

I don't know if you can use this, but it was just something I remembered on my A4k.

IIRC my A3k just has jumpers on the drives.
I have HD drives at both DF0 and DF1, both are
reconzied as HD drives. (OS 3.9)
The A2k has a jumper on the MoBo to tell it there
is a DF1 on-board but I don't think there is any
jumper to tell it its a HD drive.
IIRC OS 3.1 on my A3k would only reconize one HD drive.
I had 2 HD drives in it then and only one would be
reconized at a time. If I had a HD disk in one drive
then the other would only see DD disks. But it didn't
seem to matter which drive on the A3k.
I didn't think it would matter on the A2k where the
drive is at, it does see it as a HD drive in the DF0
position.

Try using Kickstart / Workbench 2.04.  Some Amiga 2000 HD disk drives will not work with Amiga OS 3.X.  I have had two such drives.  I sold them and went back to using 880 drives.  I am now stocking up on DS/DD disks and Teac and Chinon disk drives.  I suggest you do the same.
