Title: Growing up in Beeville
Post by: bjjones37 on November 16, 2004, 02:23:04 PM
Beeville was a town of 10000 at the time.  There was no MacDonalds.  Maybe three major grocery stores.  It was very quiet with no action and no night life. Everything was in walking or bicycle distance. Traffic was almost nonexistent. The most exciting thing that happened was when the marching band marched behind the horses during western week.  :-D Barbecue rattlesnake during the rattlesnake roundup after all the rattlesnakes were milked. I miss Beeville.

I know what you mean. I spent large parts of my childhood in a small town on the edges of the South-Swedish highlands. The town, Stidsvig (stop laughing, Dan! ;-)), is one of those tiny holes that you really, really hate to live in, but I have quite a few fond memories from growing up there.

There is a certain charm in being able to ride a bicycle in the middle of the main road without anyone caring, or even taking notice. As I've gotten older, I now realise that it's kinda pleasant to live that close to nature aswell.
