Title: Caps lock light On, KB not working!...FIXED
Post by: K7HTH on November 13, 2004, 04:34:30 PM
I have a KB in excellent condition won in an auction attached to a rev 6A board in an A500. Each time upon booting, the caps lock comes on and stay on. No keys respond to type text but I can reset with Cntrl Amiga Amiga keys. Does anyone know why this is?

I have experienced the same symptom on another mobo, this time on a ver. 5 board. So I persume the problem is localized in the KB and not the A500. Any comments?

Well, the symptom stopped on the ver 5 mobo. I put the KB back into the ver 6A and the symtom returned. Arrrrgh!

I too have a funky 500 keyboard that does just the opposite, the caps light won't come on and I have great difficulty getting the shift or caps keys to work with other keys.  I figure it's probably corrosion or a bad keyboard controller.  You might try just swapping out keyboards.   Try also checking inside the plastic keyboard/motherboard connector; sometimes the wire contacts can get dislodged if plugged in/out many times.

Thanks, Argus I will have to try that out. I also find it I move the board around and wiggle the ground strap the light goes out and works well again, sometimes.

Taking note of the circuit board while taking closer note of the solder welds I noticed cold solder points around the IC. I resoldered the contacts ans also the lead wires from from the mobo cable. All works like dandy! Thanks for the sounding board, all.
