Title: Displaying long file names on MS-DOS floppies
Post by: FB_mach2 on November 11, 2004, 09:03:35 AM
Hi!

I have workbench 3.0 and try to read MS-DOS floppies using PC0: device driver. But all file names with more than 8 characters are shown the same way as under MS-DOS

For example instead of INSTALLER, I have INSTAL~1.

What should I do to allow long file names on MS-DOS disks??

Thank you in advance.

Use FAT95 (http://ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/aminet/disk/misc/fat95.lha) instead of CrossDOS. That should do it.

As whabang said - use Fat95.

I've used it for years to take stuff from Win95/98/2k/XP and it's worked a charm every time :-D

Newer versions of CrossDOS work with long filenames, too. 42.1 is the version I use. I think it was either release version 7 or 8.

But fat95 is probably the better choice at this point.

I have Cross DOS 7, and it reliably sets IBM files back to the 8.3 format. Can't say for newer versions....
