I thought MacOSX could run OS9 software... why do you need OS 9 partiton?

MacOS X runs OS9 software by automatically loading OS 9 within MacOS X when the application is started.
But there is the option for the user to enter the original OS 9 environment if they prefer it and all their apps are for 9 (very rarely the case these days)
