Title: My A4000 just died on me... well, almost
Post by: Imerion on October 05, 2004, 12:14:35 AM
I was downloading some programs on my A4000 when I accidently   pulled out the contact. After that I tried to start it and it loads like usual and WB shows up. Then it freezes. When I restart it it Gurus. If I press a button, it restarts and gurus again. If I turn off the power and then turn it back on it will load WB, and then freeze and were back again. When I try to boot from a disk it crashed immediately. I can start it without boot-sequence though. Any idea what the error might be?

I thought that at first to, but I could reach it through the command line. However, it seems the problem is solved : I started the computer again about half an hour later and then it worked. First it started and got a bit further this time. After that it crashed but this time I got the MCP crash handler. Much better. I restarted now and after that it worked. Strange. Oh well, Im happy it works atleast.

Heh, quite what I've experienced with Amiga-behaviour in the past. Erratic at best :-).

I highly recommend doing a backup of your SYS: partition atleast every month or so, that way if something bad happends you can recover. Use Diabolo or just copy the file over.  I use a JAZ disk.  I partition it and set it up like a HD and if I ever need do a emergency boot I can off te JAZ directly! Or you can also burn a CD of your system disk.
