I was just wondering, with Amiga now in the hands of Kmos, does this change any contract Bernd Meyer had with Amiga Inc. I know there are other companies involved like
Haage & partner(legal issues) but I thought mabey with the changing of the gaurds, there might be hope for Amithlon v2. Also, Bernd is also doing updates to the original amithlon from time to time here. Amithlon blog (http:// http://www.umilator.net )
What are yout thoughts ?

From what I've read the dispute was between H&P and Berndt, so I'd guess that wouldn't make any difference to the current status!
-
Can't someone else distribute it? H & P were just the distributors correct? I thought Amiga inc asked Bernd to stop development and H & P continued selling it after violating some sort of license. I can't remember all the details. I will look it up.

I believe so...
Can't someone else distribute it?
I don't think so.... From what I understand (and please feel free to correct me, if I'm in error!) Bernd signed an exclusive agreement for distribution by H & P. Allegedly this agreement fell apart from H & P possibly not paying Bernd, Amiga Inc, or otherwise holding up their end of the bargain. Bernd states that the agreement he had is now null and void. H & P disagrees, and threatens to sue Bernd if he tries to work with another distributor. Hence, project shelved, with little hope of revival.... And such ends the most interesting of the Amiga projects remaining. :-(

I believe amithlon was a much better solution for amiga owners more compatible and could use cheap hardware much better than my a1 with os4 pre which can not run much of the software that i have .
be nice if all the legal problems could be sorted and it could be rereleased and updated but im affraid it looks like it has gone to far for that now. :-)

There's no chance at all of Amithlon being resurrected, or of a successor coming to market. The legal disputes with H&P and Harald Frank seem to have worn Bernie down to the point where he has no interest in getting involved in the Amiga market ever again -- and having been on the recieving end of Mr Frank's vitriolic bile myself, I understand that completely. Even if by some miracle he was willing to give it another go, you can bet Hyperion and Eyetech would, perhaps not unreasonably, push hard to convince KMOS to say no.
I've been a huge fan of Amithlon, devoting many months worth of spare time to producting updated kernels and drivers for it, but its day is gone. Increasing hardware power means WinUAE/AmigaForever is a good enough OS3.9 platform for 90% of people these days. There are no longer enough potential buyers or developers to support another Amithlon-style product.
AmigaOS these days means UAE or an AmigaOne, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Don't forget AROS :-D

Cough... AROS... :-D
-Edit- opps, didn't see holly there :-D... Yes MikeyMike... I know, next time I'll cover my mouth so you all don't catch my AROS disease :-D
-
Bloodline, you really need to do something about that cough! :-)

AROS
So how is aros doing these days been a while since i last looked and tryed it i have to give the latest version a try . :-)
-
It's got audio drivers for AC97 & SB Live, plus drivers for NVidia graphics (2D). PNG icons, anti-aliased fonts, decent HD installer (dual booting works nicely), supports PCI properly now ...
If all goes to plan I'll be taking a good AROS rig to Big Bash 2, can have fun with 2 player Doom on one machine with it :-D

I for one think there would be a market for this. Who besides myself would pay in the $100 range for an Amiga type platform over $800 + US dollars for an amiga one.
I don't think Im alone. And if the people involved with Amiga would think this way, they might actualy make money. People buy otherwise free Linux disros everyday, why not Amithlon ? It has a geekdom apeal and is an alternative from the main stream. Also the slim market for amigaone will not save Amiga. But it doesn't apear it's not going to happen as nothing good ever seems to survive for the Amiga.
:-?

I can see it now in the tradition of A vs P.. Amithlon vs UAE in theaters next summer...
