Hi All. I've been hanging around here, reading posts etc for the last while but only just got around to joining.
I'm a long time Commodore user - first comp was a Commodore 64 (although I can't really remember it...I was born in 84, lol) which we sold to get an A500 which we've had ever since (and it's still going like the day we got it). I recently picked up an A600 with 1084s and WB disks for $10AUD a couple of weeks ago, and the prospect of being able to install all my old OCS games onto the HD with WHDload or something similar got me interested in Amiga again. I've installed a Seagate 2gb HD into it, and I'm really loving it all over again.
Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself, and I'll be seeing you around. :-)

Welcome Darklight,
I hope you enjoy your stay :-)
:pint:
-
Thanks Cyberus, I will.
Currently I'm keeping an eye out for an A1200. The A600 got me into the scene again, but there's only so much you can do with it, and it'd be great to play all those AGA games I never got to, lol.
-
Hey darklight! and welcome.
if it is an A1200 you are after then you are in luck. They can still be bought new from verious shops on the internet (damn I'm not that good at spelling)

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."
:lol::lol:
Ah man, that quote has brightened my day!!!
-
Thanks for that nex4060.
I'll check it out and see if I can find anywhere with A1200's in stock. The problem is going to be trying to find one in Australia... :-o Stock A1200's go for shockingly high prices over here, as the only source most people can find them is ebay. If I can get a new one from overseas, that'd be great.
Anywhere you would recommend looking?
Thanks

You could try this shop in Norway:

Thanks for that, I'll check it out and let you know how I get on. :-)
-
Or you could place a Wanted ad on Amibench
amibench.net
-
Thanks heaps for the help guys :-)
-
Hi...
Hehe, that pacman quote was superb.
[But shouldn`t that be 2 types of people that understand binary?]
-
Hrumph.... Its a joke ! Binary 10 = Decimal 2.
Homer undrstandz binary !!!
-
LOL, hehehe, I had this sig as my name on MSN Messenger for a while.....you'd be surprised how often I got asked that question :-D
-
Anyway, welcome ... a wanted should help find one (it's really www.Amibench.com BTW), and it shouldn't be too expensive on shipping provided you're patient and get the sender to pack it more carefully for surface mail :-D.
I know a couple of guys that run Aussie cars, I could go ask if they have any suggestions that might help :-)
-
Aussies :-)
http://anythingamiga.com/index.html

check it out and dont forget to add the GST 10%.. doh!

Thanks for the advice, Holley & Azryl. I checked out Anything Amiga, but they're down for maintenance at the moment. :-( I might send them an e-mail to see what they've got. I'll also look at putting a wanted ad on Amibench and see if that turns up anything.
Holley, if you could ask your mates for suggestions, that'd be great thanks :-)
Thanks again for all the help :-)

What about those Amiga guys in Sydney? Don't they still sell miggy stuff?
(Can't remember the shop's name, they were quite a bit to the south IIRC).
-
Don't know about that shop, odin....I really just got back into it, so I'm still learning stuff. :-?
On the plus side, I ended up getting myself a 1200 today. I got an official second chance email from ebay on one that I missed out on a couple of days ago (the highest bidder was non-paying). So I immediately went over and got it, lol. Stock A1200HD with 3.1 Roms and RTC fitted (lithium battery). So I'm going to put my 2gb HD in there and put the 175mb it came with in the 600 :-D

Good For You!
I've recently just gotten back into the Amiga myself, i had lots of fond memories of the amiga in the 90's when i was right into then, i started on an Amiga 600 back then too, i now have two Amiga 4000's that i'm working on upgrading.
Cheers from New Zealand,

'84 ??!?? My god! Just a kid! Hey, that's great - a platform as old and beat up as Amiga has something that still attract a younger crowd. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions here - there is a agreat group of guys here!
-
Hey, thanks for that swordfish & mgerics. I already feel like I'm starting to fit in, lol.
Yep, born in 84, turned 20 this year. I've always had a fondness for Amiga, simply because I grew up with them, I guess. I'm just glad there's places like this around where this great platform is still recognised.
