Title: Edirol FA-101
Post by: bloodline on September 29, 2004, 02:56:06 PM
I just got one and I'm so happy, I could cry.

It makes my Softsynths sound like my real Roland Synths, not really that odd considering Edirol is a devision of Roland.

I can't bleieve the quality, it sounds like equpiment I've used that costs several thausand, and do half as much.

So if anyone is trying to decide which to buy (as I was), out of the M-Audio Firewire 410 (~£260) or the Edirol FA-101 (~£360)... Go for the FA-101 it's worth the extra £100 for the stability of the drivers alone. The extra 10 channels are a bonus, and the audio quality from the Edirol outstrips the M-Audio by a factor of about 2.6 million.

This Matt is a happy chap.

I don't use it at the moment, no.
It's currently at a friend's house, while I move and get settled in.
A few people have tried to buy it off me in the past. The one offer I would've taken, had I been there, was for £800!!!
I lent it to a friend who took into the studio, and the producer there offered him £800 for it, as it wasn't his, he didn't sell it.

Of course, its not worth that much, but I'm quite chuffed as I bought it for a tenner when I worked in a music shop. A guy brought it in one day, and I tested it for the boss, and couldn't get it working (because I didn't know what I was doing). When they guy came back, the boss didn't want it, as it 'didn't work' but I offered him a fiver for it, as I thought I could fix it up...he said, "hmm, could you offer me any more?" and I said "How about a tenner?". He took it.

Turned out to be quite a coup! I discovered later that it did work, I just didn't know what I was doing!

What I like about it, is when I studied Audio Technology for a year at Salford Uni, before quitting and going to London to study Physics, we learned all about building sounds from the ground up, so to speak, and it has all the dials for LFO etc, etc

My dream synth was always the Korg M1, since YEARS ago when I had keyboard lessons, that was THE synth to have.
I gather they still fetch a couple of hundred quid today  :-o

You got that for £10!!!! B A R G I N!!!

I always wanted a Korg Triton (and a Roland JP8000), but then I got a Laptop and softsynths became much more useful and portable... The Edirol FA-101 has made the softsynths far better sounding than any of my old hardware!
