Title: How many are Amiga only?
Post by: FluffyMcDeath on February 12, 2003, 08:29:09 AM
This must have been asked before, but here goes again.

I guess this is in response to the WarPipers "Bailing Out".

So I suppose the questin that it raised for me was, when does a person discovered that they have "bailed out" or what happens when they do?

I don't know if there are any people out there that only have an Amiga (or 5) and no other machines. Over the years, as I have more options, I have used the Amiga less and less often. These days I find myself using the iBook quite a lot. The PC is a paperweight and only gets turned on when it absolutely has to. My Amiga still gets a workout every couple of days, even though the hardware is old and she can hardly stay up for more than a few hours without having a seizure. Sometimes she won't even boot without getting her bits jiggled.

But, how infrequently do you use the Amiga before you decide you have thrown in the towel, or do you throw in the towel and then not use it anymore?

Are there still people here who have only one computer and it's an Amiga and are feeling trapped by it?

I used my old A600 as my only computer until I got an old 286 for word processing in '99 ( hey, Ms Works 2.0 was actually good, and it was good enough to type on... :-) )
A few months later I built myself a 486 from old parts, and after a few months more my grandparents gave me a ( allmost ) brand new Compaq. ( 233 MHz ) and that was enough for me to move over to the dark side.
After that I bought my A1200, but the PC ( 750 by now ) is still my main computer ( after all, I am a PC-technician :-P ).

I think someone "bailing out" would be someone who goes and never looks back. I don't think that people who still hope for a future Amiga are true bail outs. They'll just need some incentive to get back to "normal" again. Although I don't use My Amiga's as often, I still talk it up at every chance I get. Even at a monthly PC gaming LAN that attend. At the LAN they are talking about having a Worms World tourny. I then suggested that a WormsDC tourny would be better. I will take along the A1200's I have laying around, and I will get people to play worms DC on them ;) Oh well, the other gamers do know that I am a little crazy about Amiga's. What, with all the Amiga stickers on my PC boxes and my Amiga Mouse mat. I think taking alon A1200's to play WormsDC will freak them out totally ;)

My BVPPC 060 fits my needs at home. I'll have a Pegasos next to it soon. As to a PC, I have nothing against Wintel, I use it at work, but at home I just feel better with my miggy.

I personally know of a few people with no PC or Mac along with their Amiga. Most of the rest of us can buy a cheap PC for running Windows or Linux on to do the things an Amiga can't. And I mean cheap - anyone who spends more than £300 on a PC has conned themselves out of money.

As for abandoning the Amiga - never. Not while mine is stable. If it breaks, I fully intend getting a new PPC Amiga. If there are no good choices, I won't get another computer. I certainly won't ever become a regular PC user - IMHO they aren't worth the hours of my life I'd have to spend on them.

I do feel trapped, yes, but only because the affordable computers out there are crap IBM-clones and the only two feasible OS's are horrendous. Until that changes, I'll always feel trapped.

I have never bought x86 machines  :-D But I have a laptop which I got for my work, so I use it for some of my homework too, and for networking, because I don't have a TCP stack which support PPPoE currently.

I use my Amiga mainly for programming - it's fun :-D Now that I got finally GCC installed, I think I will study some MiniGL when I find time.

I hope that the Amigas (and likes) are coming soon to the larger public audience. It would fantastic to develop for OS 4 - and MorphOS coding really isn't that different, so the programs I write may be easily adapted.

Amiga Forever!!!

Well, I don't own "only" Amigas, but they are the only computers I use outside of work on a regular basis. (my computer collection is listed here (http://www.old-computers.com/club/collectors/ordis.asp?c=232)).

My souped up A4000 is a joy to use, and it does everything I need from a home computer. Admittedly, it IS annoying when playing mp3s or using MakeCD slows down the whole system, but thats what my AmigaONE is going to solve  :-D

Gotta agree with tickly on this one.

My A1200/040/PPC is a joy to use and better still, I don't suffer any meaningul lag from mp3 playing ;-)

I do own a PC, but it's ageing far worse than my miggy (a K6-II 350/64Mb running Win2000Pro - ouch!). It has its uses, however...

Well, besides a Dragon 32, all my computers are Amigas. Being trapped by it...hmm, maybe sort of. Waiting for my G4XE to set me free! :-D

Until last year I had only Amigas but then I bought my first PC an Athlon 1700+ xp. Well I I use more frequently the PC (divx, kazaa, games etc) but I use also my Amiga everyday. My e-mails I get them from her, and while waiting I browse in some sites, I also have the irc client always open so I can see if someone talked to me. I have a monitor with two inputs.  When I have time I also do some stuff in C++ with her :P

Well when I get one of the new Amigas things will change.
As I have said before I`ll do my everyday computing with her.
- Watch dvd, divx
- Download divx with amiga directconnect for Amiga old movies I cant find in dvd
- Hear internet radio,  mp3z and my CDs
- Browse
- e-mail
- IRC
- yahoo messenger with jamberwaky (I heard that it works)
- My usually C++ programming
- And hopefully find the time to make mod music and try to make a demo.
- Ah.. and play some of the old/new Amiga games I couldn`t play because of my setup (040)

I have an A2000/060 and an A1200/060. I've never owned a PC. I use them (PC's) every day at work, so why would I want to waste my money for one at home? I'm waiting for the A1/OS4.

My main machine is still a beefed up A4000, CSPPC 128MB RAM, PIV, CDRW, Toccata audio, VLAB Motion, etc. etc.

Unfortunately, I have to admit that I also have access to a PC at the swivel of my chair. However, I'll only admit to needing it for two things:

1. For hosting (http://www.crestviewbbs.com) one of the most popular text-based RPGs around,MajorMud (http://www.majormud.com/whatismud.html), and

2. For running MegaMud (http://www.megamud.net/info.html), a client which puts MajorMud ahead of all the other RPGs I've played before.

For everything else, there's Amiga. ;-)

Used to be Amiga-only but when I went to college in 2000 I bought a PC, and I still am using the same PC eversince (only upgraded the mem and videocard).

Apart from that I have an towered A1200 with Bliz040/603e@175MHz. And a bogstandard A1200 lying in the corner of my room in front of the TV. But I hardly ever use my Amigas, I hope to change that when OS4 will be available for my crappy Blizz.

I once owned a CDTV (WHY DID I EVER SELL IT :-x), and an A2000.

My next goal is to acquire an CDTV and expand it to the max :-).

Well I own a PC but I would still say I am amiga only. The PC gets turned on at the same time as my amiga (as soon as I get up), however I almost always forget to log into it. The only reason its on is because it powers my monitor. modem and speakers. The only thing I use it for is Kazaa, the very occasional website, some PDF stuff and for when ideots send me M$ word documents. Oh and for the record its a P120 with 32mb of ram and a 2mb 2D only gfx card. My miggy on the other hand is an A1200T, PPP@160/040@25, 128mb ram, Bvision, CDRW, 20GIG HDD etc etc :)

I owned only Amigas until about a year ago.
Then I bought an iBook. I still use my Amiga every day though.

Now, if only that AmigaOne-XE motherboard would arrive soon :)

I used to be able to say that I was "Amiga only".  Since the company I work for started their laptop program, I've had a Win-DOHS laptop for quite a while now.  Although I use my A4000T less now, mainly because IE/Mozilla/Netscape handle web sites better, it still gets used every day.  And, it stays on 24x7 'cause it's running my website with the Amiga version of Apache.  Wanna see?

I also have an old macII and an a500 lying around.  I intend to upgrade the A1200 properlywhen I have the time & money so I could use it more often.

Hmm, I think people just hate PC's for the sake of it really, I admit Windows is a bit annoying, but still.

I own both PC's and my A1200. One of the PC's doesn't get used much anymore (hard drive is going out). The other PC gets used too much. My biggest problem in getting around to use the A1200 is time. The pressures of family and church responsibilities eat up most all my free time. From time to time I fire up the miggy and check to be sure it's working. Actually, my oldest son spents more time on it than I do, playing Scorched Tanks. The miggy has an 68030 50MHz w/ FPU @50MHz and SCSI-2 interface. I need to put in the 3.1 ROM's I got a year ago and install WB3.1, but again it's time thing.

Anyway of slowing down the earth's rotation to a 30 hour day?  The extra time sure would be nice!

I've said it before and I say it again, I only use my PC's because of the games. (Falcon 4, Morrowind f.ex)

And up until 2 weeks ago that was all I used it for, but now I'm getting heavily into Cinema 4D (for PC that is.).

Otherwise it's all Amiga... :)

Hi there

Well, here's an amiga only owner. I have an A1200 in a Power Tower with 060/PPC+SCSI, BVision and let me tell you that it's a joy to use it everyday, mostly if you comeback from work late at night where you've been using PCs. I have another bare A1200 used for old games. In fact, I've never had any other computer but amiga (well, I started with a commodore 64, then a C128, A500)..

I don`t hate Windows, but I`d prefer not to use it. Its also a hobby and something different to do, supporting Amiga. I don`t like to follow what everbody does just cause its the norm. I`m no sheep.

As I`ve said 1,000 times. The only 2 things making a PC tempting is 3D applications and Flight simulators. We have a possible solution to the 3D thing, but when is somebody going to make a flightsim!? Porting one would do me for a while!

My main computer is an a1200 060 + 240mhz ppc + bvision. Im rather happy with with - but it's getting kind of sluggish when im working with high-res gfx.

Hopefully amigaONE will speed things up :)  hmm... and i need some decent gfx-program on os4.0 too -  (photogenics would be nice).

Well, I'm not. I bailed out first in '97. Didn't take more than a year for discontent to set in.

The only time I bother to use the PC these days is if my Amiga can't do something I need. That isn't too often, thankfully.

Post by: MarkTime on February 12, 2003, 04:42:30 PM
I'll pipe in too....

I didn't start on an amiga, and was amiga only, for only a short period of time... I cut my teeth on a TI-99 4/A, wrote 3 games for that machine (advanced basic)...

I had a TRS-80 Model III (basic programming), and an Atari 400, 800 (more basic programming).
Had an Atari ST (switched to pascal).

Eventually got an A1200 (C language).  I liked the Amiga community, it was the last bastion of what home computing was about....

but 5 years ago (how time flies now)...I sold that A1200, 060/50mhz...and got a very old used, powermac 6100, which was a nubus mac, but how it flew for web browsing compared to the miggy....

Eventually I got a G4 Mac when they were outrageously expensive I bought a top of the line G4/500 and overclocked that to 550....woooo I was king of the world... (never programmed it a bit, just did 3d rendering and animations)...and then I lost everything...and then I started over.

Currently my only pc is a PII/400 (C# programming), but I am ready to buy....just sitting around waiting....but I won't be wasting any money, thats for sure...

after the first and hopefully last bankruptcy....don't plan on wasting even a single dime going forward...Amiga's have always been expensive...so its a bit of an issue with me.

I'm not concerned in the least bit about someone else's need to make a profit.  The only way someone's getting an extra dime from me, is from my cold dead hands.....hehehe.....but I digress.

Ahhh, its fun to reminisce...did a lot of hardware projects too, anyone remember having to build the ring detector because the modem didn't come with one??  I had a cheap atari 400 modem like that...(300 bps!)

I don't find the PC, to be a paperweight, because you can do development work, learn OpenGL....even a linux box would be good enough, but I think windows is a bit more fun the Linux....I know its hard to believe, but despite my penchant for different and exotic, Linux comes off as dry and boring to me, I'd rather use windows....

Confession time.

I have two Amigas, but they rarely get switched on and will probably soon go in the museum with the Electron and Spectrum.

Using PC at home and Mac at work, but following the AmigaOne news with interest. When it comes out with AOS 4, I'll be there.  :-)

I'm typing this on my third Amiga, or should I say third and a half as I've replaced some parts.
I had some different computers in my pre Amiga days, and still have a couple of them standing around in corners, but they are just gathering dust. Imagine computing without multitasking... *shudder*
Anyway that's what I've got at home. I occasionally use a Lose-dows PC at work, and there's this place I stop by each day on my way to work to use another one of those monsters to do things on the net my Miggy can't do (yet).

i dont know what "Bailing Out" is actually supposed to mean...
i own many types of computers and i use many OS's, so for me "Bailing Out" would mean throwing out my A4000T and some of my other amigas and stuff, and only using all my other computers

anybody can use an amiga in addition to their ibm-pc installed with ms-windows! there is no need for throwing it away just to use somthing else
using linux all of a sudden, even on different hardware, does not have to mean you are leaving the amiga community!

For a long time I was Amiga only. Then a few years ago a friend of mine got sick of his PC and gave it to me, and I toyed with it a bit, but didn't actually use it much. Now I have 2 PCs, an Athlon XP 1800 and 2100+. One replaced my somewhat newer-ish K6-2+ 450, and the other is doing Tivo-like work next to my TV. The replacement was mostly used to get to websites that IBrowse 2.2 choked on, such as my bank account info and such, as well as the occasional round of HalfLife or something like that which isn't yet ported to Amiga. Eventually one of my older and currently unused PCs will become a linux firewall to my cablemodem, as I'm not going to spend the kind of money on an AmigaOne to do that work, when I have an old K6-2 laying around already paid for.

But now that IBrowse 2.3 came out, it gets me to all of the previously broken sites, the ones I've tried so far anyway, and have been using the PC less and less again, to the point that both PCs are now primarily cracking RC5 keys, and somewhat used for OpenOffice. (Still need to figure out how to give my credits to the Amiga RC5 team...) If OpenOffice gets ported to Amiga, then I won't have much real use for the PCs anymore, other than the Tivo-ish stuff, as I haven't been into games much lately and will need to catch up on all the PPC Amiga games I've already bought but never had a PPC card to run - Wipeout 2097, Heretic 2, Quake2, Nightlong PPC, Freespace, with my 060/66 not being enough to play the 68K versions of a couple of these well. I started buying PPC software back when the Metabox Amijoe 4000 was "coming soon". Man, I'm going to enjoy my new hardware!

We're 99.99% Amiga in our house.

Started with C64, then A500, now A1200T.

Oh, the 0.01% is an old 386/Win3.1 that believes
it's 1974. Well how could I get rid of it? We'll all get old
someday!

2001-NOW I use A1200 BlizzPPC Infinitower,
Mediator, Voodoo3, SB, USB(hmm..), etc,..
2001 was year in wich I started again with computers,
and I had to choose between Athlon1200 and Amiga1200 :-D
For almost same price I have 500 times slower machine!
But it feels allright!!!

Well in this household, things were heavily stacked against the Amiga:

AMD Athlon 1200
GF Ti 4200
256mb ram
etc

AMD 900
Ati 9000 pro

Gateway :-D  celeron computer

A old 100mhz laptop

And an Xbox.

In terms of the amigas:

1 A1200, 040 40mhz
1 A2000, 030, 25mhz
1 CD32

From tomorrow however, things will once again swing in the Amiga's favour as I will be selling my Gateway and the motherbord and cpu of my AMD board (I have butchered both for components to use with an A1  ;-) ).

Hopefully by July or August I will have an A1 as well :-) .

Too be quite honest I hardly view my PEECEE as computer, rather a standard home appliance  :-o , which is required as a necessity for Uni work and Day of Defeat  ;-) .  In contrast, after having abandoned the Amiga  scene a few years ago, I'm finding that I am using them more and more!  They are simply more enjoyable to use even if they are hundreds of times slower (I tried WinUAE, but it does not give the same feeling as the real thing, oh well maybe I'm one just for nostalgia).

My turn:

I was Amiga only until may 2001, when I got  a laptop. I really wanted to go PPC on my loyal A1200, but I wasn't sure because the long wait of the A1. I'm still going for the A1, but in the mean time, I got the laptop running the crappy XP (M$ tax sadly) but using WinUAE quite a lot, cos I'm not native english speaker and the speller of Final Writer has no equal for someone learning English as a second language. I also manage to install Red Hat 8.0 and start learning Linux, but still using the loyal A1200 for special task and games.  :-D

I'm getting the A1 as soon as becomes commercially available. :pint:

I own an A2000, 1 meg chip, AOS 1.3.3,(1989) with GVP Impact II (1990) w 8 megs, SCSI with 180 meg. Fujitsu on it.
I love, love, love it. And you know how limited it is, right? I will, someday, get an 060 @60 MHz, maybe the coldfire project will someday get done, who knows?

I have spent SOOOO many years going into "Electronics Boutique", gawking at the myriad of games available, crying, and thinking "surely, the grass is greener on the other side", and at the same time, bad mouthing windoze every chance I got (split personality?). Then Aug 2002, got me a spiffy new machine, use w98se, friend had a disk lying around, he didn't need. Then, all the years of me bad-mouthing the os came woefully true. I can't stand this thing!!! It's a 2.26GHz FSB 533, 1 Gig. ram (motherboard can hold 3), MSI Ti4600, 2  40Gig HDs on a raid card piece of Garbage. I HATE it. It won't do what I WANT IT TO DO. I can't copy games into a ram drive. From the os, I can't make one. And the list goes on and on, etc. I am dissapointed EVERY time I turn it on to use it and usually in more than 4 or 5 ways. I'm not getting another version (w2k, xp), I'm not giving BG any cash for this junk.

I'm probably going to pull out the MB and put in an A1.

Wether I do that or not, I'm still getting the 800 MHz A1, AOS4.0.

I am not an AInc./Eyetech/Hyperion shareholder/salesman/developer....etc.

Amiga! ...ink, like it thinks, like I think, like it thinks, like I th...

My main Amiga is an A2000 with an 060 blizz, 128meg ram, 4 gig hd, cdrom drive, ual floppies, cgx64-3d, os 3.9 on an NEC fe700 flatscreen multisync monitor.  Got an A3000 waiting to be towerized if the Shark ever comes out, and my original A1000 still gets used to play some of the old games.  Gotta keep on using that one, cause it cost me $2200 USD back in 1986, so dammit I'm gonna keep getting my moneys worth out of it.  Oh yeah, got a Compaq Pee Cee that we use to access email.

/me pulls up to confession box

I remember seeing my first amiga in 87 (Defender of the Crown) and wanting so badly to own one ever since. It wasn't until '89 when my dream came true and consequently enjoyed many years of bliss because of it. All my friends owned a miggy, and we used to swap game tips in the school yards for hours, I made many good friends through the Amiga too. But I was also a very anti-peecee back then - I think thats what brought us Amigans closer, as we rallied together during class breaks to flaunt our h/w superiority on those poor peecee goers, hehe.

But my miggy died in '94 while playing Desert Strike. I spent over 2yrs agonizing whether I would turn to the dark side. It wasn't until Doom and windows 95 hit that I conceded to buying into the whole Peecee thing. I still felt like I was downgrading for 2 years after that! If it wasn't for the rapid development of 3D gaming, I think I would hav been using a console for my gaming needs and probably a cheap mac for work purposes.

BTW, that first amiga I saw. was from an old school buddy who I still keep in touch with. His dad still uses it for just about everything. He in my mind is a true Amigan, he makes me and my friend pale in comparison. And still plugs the old yamaha keyboard for some midi playing from time to time.

Hi From Chicago!

I have been reading news and discussions on Amiga.Org for a while now.  I have decided to
respond to this post and be heard.

My personal computer is an A3000/030 with 16 megs Ram, 10 Gig Scsi Drive, CD-Rom, OS
V3.9, X-Surf ethernet card, and a KDS 17 inch monitor.

I run a business out of my house and the business has: A1200/060 32 megs Ram, 20 Gig IDE
Drive, PCMCIA ethernet card (National Amiga), and a Sony 17 inch monitor.

My partners computer is a: A4000T/060 32 megs Ram, 40 Gig IDE Drive, CDRW Drive, X-surf
ethernet card, and a Compaq 17 inch monitor.

We have all the Amigas networked together and we have the networked connected to a
cable modem.  My partner had never used an Amiga before until she began working with
me about 2 yrs ago.  She has a Compaq laptop at home, but she doesn't use it much
anymore.  And when we get AmigaOne/OS4.0, she is going to take the A4000T home.

She always tells me that the A3000 sold her on the Amiga.  How can a 13 yr old
computer do all that it can do (networked, browse the net, so on).  I am just glad
the A3000 is still working after all these years.  I still have the original
Commodore 1950 monitor that I bought with the A3000 and it still
works, just sitting in the closet since we have much better monitors now.

Thanks for you time.

Are there still people here who have only one computer and it's an Amiga and are feeling trapped by it?

ANYONE who's read enough of my posts knows that I use a 12 y.o. A2000HD model online....... actually, its older than that but I bought it in 1991 as an upgrade over my KS1.2 A500!

I had to access a Win-PC at a Employment Bureau initially to upload my website Exotic transportation (http://home.iprimus.com.au/vortexau/) wnich I built upon what I'd learned at a Tech College WEB DESIGN course in October 1990.

Currently I use FTPlus, a plug-in to AWeb, to maintain my site.

Oh- the OTHER use for that PC access since was to upload my Avatar to AmigaOrg.

° Incidentially, I took along a A600HD to display a visual presentation at a film course last year and NONE of the fellow students knew what it was. This, in spite of many of the teen students having used Casablanca NLE systems at high school!

The only "feeling trapped by ...(using) an Amiga" is in not having access to certain modern digital services, and .... that NOT being able to navigate AmigaOrg easily with a Amiga browser!

(Imagine wanting to go to a MG Rally, and they told you to come in a Ford Taurus?)

I'll soon be almost Amiga only, as soon as my Mirage 4k Pro arrives and I get my hands on Voodoo5 and NIC.

After that only place I use PC is at work. Lady of the house may have issues with this, guess I have to teach her how to use a computer instead of pseudo-computer ;).

Edit:  Yeah! Got my hands on a another A4k.. life is smiling upon me.

I'm Amiga only in practise, because I'm using only Amiga in daily basis and I can do everything I need with it. But I have other computers too: One 450MHz PC which I use only for DirectConnect (about once a week), two SparcStations and some 8bit Commodores for hobby :) My only monitor is attached to Amiga and I use pc with VNC and Sparcs with X over ethernet.

Hello FluffyMcDeath,

As mentioned in other threads I also had only an original Amiga 1200 until the arrival of my new computer last tuesday :-)

I started with a Vic20 way back in 1983 and progressed through a C64, A500, A600 to my A1200 Blizzard040/40 64MB with SCSI2 CD-ROM, CD-Writer, 4.2 GB and 9.1 GB harddrive. Oh, also an IDE 850 MB harddrive inside :-)

I solve problems with pc's at work (software and a little bit hardware) and that's enough for me.

If you look at the enormous speeds of the chips these days and then you look at how blown up Windows is, you can't stop wondering if the speed increases are ment for the users or for the next  version of Windows??
I want a small and efficient system, period! (and it's not Windows or Linux or Apple for me)

I'm not Amiga only these days...

For games (Battlefield 1942, SOF2, Quakes) I use my 2 PC's...

For most other applications I use one of my 3 Amiga 3k's... (Technically I do own a 2k and an a500, but their packed away...)
Some of those items are:
1.  Surf (occasionaly on PC, depending a page requirements)
2.  Listen to music (I have no noticable loss of speed, I have the audio card overclocked to 64 MHz, can surf and listen to music, no prob...)
3.  Mechforce, ok I do play one game on the Amiga...
4.  Programming - gave up on the Amiga, insuffient tools right now...
5.  As with most everyone else here, would love a A1....

Some times I do feel 'trapped' ...  Software development is frustrating compared to Windows.  All new games are appearing on the PC (remember when the Amiga was king for new games?)

Don't get me wrong I greatly enjoy my 3k's, just ready for an A1...

Sadly my A1200 died 2 years ago. However my Athlon 1.4 Thunderbird with GeForce4 card means that I use WinUAE so I can :

Running OS3.9
Playing CD32 games
Render with Real3D
Run Digita Office at lightning speeds!
Surf the net
Check my e-mail PC-virus free

Yes - I do buy and play the odd PC games and use one at work. I also pay for every Amiga Forever update that's released and buy Amiga software whenever I can. Until OS4 gets released...

Wow, took me a long time to get back to this thread to see what had become of it. I really enjoyed reading this. I was surprised to see that there were still Amiga onlies in the world simply because there is so much computing equipment available for so little these days. For e.g. I have a 486/Linux machine for my firewall webserver, that my A4000PPC sits behind. The wife has a couple of Macs on the network, my tenant has a PC plugged in, I have the work PC, and the Zaurus is on wireless, but I still love my Miggy (love it like I love my guitar). Still haven't been able to feel that way about another computer.

But reading these posts has made me all toasty inside. It's also really nice to see posts from people who I had not seen before. Thanks everyone.

I would be using my A1200 100% but my present isp isn't compatible, the new HD last 2 partitions are corrupted again an now I'm moving. I'm planning to install it into a tower from
http://www.dvsdirect.com/site/amigaproductsdvs.htm/ (http://www.dvsdirect.com/site/amigaproductsdvs.htm/)
but am going for knee revision surgery next month and that will postpone that.
I have [1] A500, [2] A1000's, [1] A1200, [1] A2500 w/VT2.0 and like most of us have much h/w & s/w. The pc is one big game machine but a good backup until I can get my Amiga up and going full-time again.
I wear my Amiga apparel, display the Amiga clock and boast proudly about my excellent machine. :-D

Are there still people here who have only one computer and it's an Amiga and are feeling trapped by it?

Up until a year ago I only had my Amiga(s), not counting my old C=64.

I didn't feel trapped in any way but there were a few things that my Amiga couldnt offer that I wanted. Some of the new games appealed a lot to me, GP4 for example, and even if I had spent countless hours with F1 GP on my Amiga it wasn't as fun any longer.

I also wanted the possibility to view movies and everyone knows that an old 040/40 can barely handle a small mpg without sound and make it viewable.

BUT, the thing that actually made me go buy the Athlon XP 1800 was Amithlon. If it hadn't been for Amithlon I would probably still have had just my old Amigas running.

I'm still using my A4000 quite much actually. Besides using the PC for movies, it mainly runs linux or Amithlon, and since I haven't been able to connect to the net with Amithlon until just now (RTL-8139) I used my A4k to surf the net...

Don't think I will abandon my Amigas either, I have a lot of fun with them still, and I even run debian woody on it :)

So... I'm far from  abandoning!
