Title: Hello and Help!

Hi all,

I have recently dug my old A1200 out of storage and being all nostalgic and dreamy eyed I had to see if it still worked - it did - perfectly - after seven years in storage even the clock was still correct!! Amazing

Anyway, I'd like to try and resurrect the trusty old A1200 and do something useful with it - any suggestions anyone?

Now for the "Help" part of my plea, I've read about O/S 3.5 and O/S 3.9 but can't find anywhere to purchase them (I am watching an auction on eBay for O/S 3.5) or find out enough detail to know which is the best option for a classic Amiga.

Greetings dez170871,

UpGrade your ROM 3.0 to 3.1, buy a cheapo 3.5 or better, 3.9(CDRom Drive Recommended) AmigaOS and Get a Hard Drive. Download some .ADF games and WHDload, install in your HD(register if you must). Then Enjoy 'Vintage Games' with your Amiga1200. ;-)

TjLaZer might be correct, unless you have HDD, extra RAM and maybe a turbo card, you'd better stay on WB3.0

Hi,

Good news, My A1200 seems quite well specced. It has an 68030 with FPU and MMU and I replaced the old Kickstart 3.0 ROMS with Kickstart 3.1 ROMS yesterday.

It also includes an Hard Disk and a Zappo CD Rom through the PCMCIA so I'm the way to getting it running again. Question:  Where can I get OS3.9 (Uk or Europe) - I have trawled the web and not come up with anything. I have my eye on OS3.5 on eBay but is it worth holding outn for OS3.9??

You can buy new OS 3.5 / 3.9 from Vesalia in germany for example ( www.vesalia.de )
OS 3.5 is quite cheap there for 9.90 EUR
OS 3.9 is still quite expensive at 35 EUR, better go for the OS 3.9 and book bundle for 37 EUR

OS 3.9 would be highly recommendet, as it has some really nice improvement over 3.5, one point being a full TCP/IP stack and not just a demo as in 3.5
A mere 030 and no graphicscard will let you feel a serious impact in speed compared to a barebone 3.0/3.1 System but this is manly caused by better looks. While 3.0/3.1 WB usually ran in 4 or 8 colormode it is recommendet to use at least 32 color with 3.5/3.9, better 256, but that would really hurt on plain AGA.

Anachronism Industries (redrumloa) I think still has 3.5 for only $19.00US.  You can get 3.9 from Software Hut or Mr. Hardware (bought my copy for $39.00 earlier this summer).

Thanks for the link to Vesalia, I've ordered myself an OS3.9 cd and a mouse adapter to save messing about with my slightly dodgy amiga mouse.

I'll keep you guys posted on how I get on with the rebuild once it all turns up!
