How beefy an amiga would I need to run the amiga version of DivX? The official site seems to tell me very little.

The fastest PPC you can get, at least ZIII GFX-card an d plenty of RAM wouldn`t hurt.
Though in theory Frogger runs on a 030 I would only be a slideshow :D

Or go buy some el cheapo PC that is at least 500mhz and get some divx software and a big hardrive? :-?
Not to cause any flame wars... :-(

A PPC and a graphics card would be the bare minimum I reckon. An 060 is too slow, and 040 or below is out of the question. SoftCinema is faster than MooVid, I've heard.

The cheapest PC I can find is about 2.5Ghz...
-Edit- Even the fastest PPC for the Amiga would be unable to run a DivX, my 600Mhz Athlon is proably the slowest decent one I've seen.

The right tool for the right job please... A classic machine is not recomended... An A1 would do or go and get yourself a cheepo 500Mhz PC.
I actually got my first PC(P166) because my A4000/060 couldn't show movie clips in a decent quality (my thoughts). I guess my A4000/060/PPC/Voodoo3 will do a better jobb but I wouldn't ask it to cause in my eye's it's not the right tool for the job.

On my 1200 with 060+Voodoo3 i can't play big files, only little divxs works at accettable speed.
On my A1 even with the prerelease i can watch more divx at once.

I already have a cheap PC (IBM craptiva, '99 vintage) which plays divX. I was just curious what amiga I would need. I have heard of the blizzardvision PPC cards, I have even found an australian distributor. Would a one of these play 'mid to large' divX files?

I'd recommend getting a chipped Xbox over a cheap PC. A certain UK premodding website can supply you one with a chip and 120gb HDD for £200. I have one myself and it's great 'cause it plugs straight into my TV and I don't have to use sucky Windows.

...or you can get a 40 quid dvd-player off www.ebuyer.com that plays divx, xvid etc... as well as normal dvd's :)
I do understand it would be cool to have divx on the amiga though...
(I don't work for ebuyer btw)
