WUArchive apparently suffered a disk failure yesterday. It sounds like the future of the archive is hazy.
Does anyone know anything about this as to sooth my worried mind. A world without Aminet seems to me to be a scary future indeed.

Use this mirror (http://ftp.unina.it/%7Eaminet/index.html) until they fix the main.
P.S. It's a complete mirror ;-)

Did the university threaten shutting it down a while ago but never did?
I'm sure it's all backed up for posterity, right?

Aminet sets used to come on 6 CDs didn't they? Mabye some public-spirited person with broadband and a spare few gig of HD space could attempt a complete download while it's still up to make sure it all survives...

They are apparently threatening to do so now. (See the relevant news item recently posted on this)
It is mirrored, of course, and a number of people have private mirrors, but AmiNet is very gradually losing publicly available sites. It would be very helpful to have Aminet available when the AmigaOne goes on the regular market with OS4. I think it is a worrisome thing when the main site goes down without being replaced by another somewhere, and I am concerned. There's a lot of history and information on AmiNet, and it would be a shame for it to become fragmented.

Already done....:-)
I have left off mods, pix, and demos because I have no personal interest in them. Many other people do, however, so I am considering taking these as well. These three sections account for well over half of AmiNet however (some 12 gb or so out of 20+gb IIRC). The actual software section (and some extras) is about 8 gb or so.

Well, disk space is cheap. Power and bandwidth are not. I think it's time for the students out there to start hitting up their university's science, engineering, and media departments. A large and diverse corporation like IBM might be a willing to help out as well.

Hmmm... I haven't checked in a few days..
But to my knowledge Aminet (US) has been down
for about a month.
What about the mirrors.. some are still up and running ??
I sure would HATE to loose Aminet.

Can we hit up money bags...errr I mean KMOS? ;-)
I mean...its mostly apps for the OS THEY OWN!!!

That's an idea very worth pursuing.....Since they're basically in a startup condition as far as Amiga Inc is concerned, I don't think they'll want to contribute much in the way of cash, as they'll need that....but perhaps we could get them talking to Urban Mueller about hosting the main Aminet site in place of wuarchive....what do you think ?
