I have a Blizzard 1260 with the SCSI-IV kit and have a 1Mb SCSI Harddrive and Microtek SCSI scanner attached just fine.  A SCSI CDROM shouldn't present a problem either.

The only way I think you can use YIM or MSN is through Jabberwocky.  There are a few really good AIM clients though, AmigAIM being my personal favorite.

The Blizzard SCSI 2 kit supports DMA meaning transfers from SCSI
devices to RAM with little CPU time being used.  If you hook a SCSI
drive up you should get better performance out your A1200.

yes you can add scanners, hard drives also
you can add fast ram i just bought mine from
amigasuperbit in spain click here (http://www.amigasuperbit.com) i
bought it so that it would fit in my case better
as the sim socket is on top.But i would
think getting hold of a cable might be a
problem i have an old 25 pin to c/electronics
from a Data flyer i used to use years ago
