Since I now have two Amigas in my LAN at home here I want to be able to easily access one from the other to copy files in an easy manner. Something similar to parnet but for ethernet, or Amiga explorer between my Amigas and my pc.
As for now I have to use the pc as a middlehand and it takes so much longer time to do it that way, AND I dont want to really... it doesnt feel right :-D
So, anyone got a tip for me? I've looked on aminet but didnt find anything.

Samba is what you are looking for, IIRC it is on Aminet.

And it works just as well between two amigas as it does between an amiga and a pc? Just checked on aminet and no readme says that so....
But, thanks for the tip. I'll d/l and try!

Use Samba if you want to include the PC, or something like Envoy if this is purely for Amiga networking. From what I've heard, Samba can be a right bast to set up, whereas Envoy is supposed to be easy as pie.
Samba is at http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/aminet.cgi?string=samba (http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/aminet.cgi?string=samba)
Envoy 3 is at http://www.schatztruhe.de/softe/envoy.html (http://www.schatztruhe.de/softe/envoy.html)

@ Munchkin,

Yes. I use it between my two Amigas all the time.

Yes i found it to be quite a beast:-) Then again networking isnt my strong point.

Well.. since Envoy isnt free, and I was looking for a quick solution I'll have to try samba then. If I was able to configure amitcp from scratch and no documentation 8 years ago I think I could handle samba too..

I'll give it a go then. Thanx.

If you need help, there is a good guide and an installer for Samba at http://www.amigasamba.org
You can also find some tools to help mounting shares.

While Samba will work its pretty big and slow.
It is designed to allow you to work between machines with different operating systems....PC & Amiga, etc.
If you have only Amigas then netfs or envoy are more useful but you're right that envoy is commercial. I'm not sure about netfs since I got mine on the disk with my X-Surf card.
You might try simply setting up an FTP server on both machines and accessing each machine with an FTP client.
This would let you setup login passowords to keep things
more secure.....Samba would expose your Amiga to PC hackers, I think, since it is used in the PC world.

I had a look at Samba and decided it was too much effort to set up. (I can be rather lazy) ;-)
However, someone did suggest that I try RC-FTPd, and I swear by it now.
It works fine here. On my LAN I have my 3000, my wife's 3000 and my stupid Win98 box. I use it to move files from my machine to my wife's or to the PC.

I can only agree! This is how I use it:
RC-FTPd on my A4000 and FileZilla on my Wintel-box running Win XP and it works great! It's much faster than using samba aswell.

In the end you have three opportunities:
Envoy, which I were able to get through eBay and which works wonderfully smooth...:-)
Samba, which can be a pain to setup (but it's free...)
or, third, some ftp daemon on both machines. I would suggest to setup ftpd's and use the nice and easy to use "FTPMount" to access each Amiga through Workbench or your favourite file manager.
I personally use Envoy for my Amigas and FTPMount to access my Solaris/dtk workstation.

Setting up FTP-servers is not an option because then I need to change the homedir everytime I need to get something from another partition.
Security is of no larger concern since both computers are on my home LAN and behind a firewall. Of course anyone could hack into that but after installing the router/firewall I haven't had one single alarm from any of the computers. (two Amigas with MiamiDX and a pc with Zonealarm).
Netfs was something new, Samba and Envoy has been mentioned before but not netfs, I'll have to look that one up too.
So, at this point I dont see ftp as any real alternative, other than a shortterm temporary solution.
So, I thank you for the tip on netfs, and if thats not an option I have to dig deep into Samba and try to figure it out. Should be able to, I did figure out how to configure AmiTCP when it was still an infant and without any clue where to start :)

I use enlan-dfs between my 3 Amigas at home and it works great. Easy to setup. Type export work (or workbench, or whatever you want to export from one computer) and then type import that node on the other computers and the first computer's exported partitions (or devices or printer) appear on the other computer's workbenchs. Came out in the early 90s. I got it off ebay cheap. Made by Interworks in Calif. However, it does not work with all ethernet cards. Works with 2065, Hydranet and some others. Jule

Enlan DFS was brilliant. I had Hydras in my micronik A1200 before it went PCI and a Hydra in my 4000/040. It was so easy to use and configure.
Does not work with MediatorNET.device however.
Shame as It was a cool bit of software.

Amiga<->Amiga and Samba is a breeze to setup. Throw other OSs into the equation and it gets more difficult, though nowhere near impossible.
I can recommend http://www.amigasamba.org as the first place of reference.

If Samba is too hard for you, why dont trt Tango instead? ;-)
It's Graphical User Interface for Samba (Which you also need to
install, of course)
-
Huh, samba, envoy, ftp... overkill! :-D
Download the AmiTCP demo from aminet. Within you will find the files of amiganetfs, a simple to setup and use networking filesystem. If you search on aminet for "netfs" you will also find a slightly older version of it.
