Post by: keropi on September 21, 2004, 10:08:43 AM
Can I use a normal pc pcmcia network card with a600 or 1200??? I just need a way to transfer files other than the slow amiga explorer serial connection...

Some PC PCMCIA cards yes. They need to be 10Mbit, SANA2 compatible PCMCIA 16bit cards. Check the drivers for cnet.device (http://ftp.uni-bremen.de/aminetbin/find?cnetdevice.lha) and 3c589.device (http://ftp.uni-bremen.de/aminetbin/find?3c589.lha) on Aminet (there's also a new whireless driver in the making being betatested atm).

You can use a "normal" pcmcia network card in your A600/A1200 however you will need to find a network card witch has drivers for the Amiga. I would search google for such a card.

@nex4060

Define normal please... is 32bit PCMCIA cards not normal? is 100Mbit PCMCIA cards not normal? Neither will work so you're info is flawed.

Maybe, but if you take half an hour to find out what you need, you could get a NIC for your Amiga for about 2 or 3 $/£/Euro.

He mentioned the need for amiga drivers. And he said "normal", not normal.

NIC=Network Interface Card, but it means "Network Information Center" in InterNIC and other domain registrar names

Don't do it!  Just take a minute to read the documentation from cnet.device (Aminet) and find one of the recommended cards.

The author has tested it with a Netgear FA410TX. I bought one of these and the card does show up however, my amiga will not remain stable due to the increased power requirements of all my stuff.

The author of that library says it works and I am willing to wager he would know.

@Gopal

You can turn it how you want but I stand with my statement that the information given was flawed. That because the poster didn't know what was needed and since "normal" in fact doesn't meen any normal PCMCIA card but only a specific few not so normal PCMCIA cards.
