This goes out to all Amiga "fanatics" out there,
This is not meant to offend anybody, mearly raise a bit of doubt in your minds.
Why dont you just face it that the Amiga system is dead and gone? I mean you go on talking about 4GB partitions and 50mHz processors, this is 2004 for {bleep}s sake! Not 1994. Yaya, the Amiga was a great system when it came and lived, but now 10 years after, is it still worth using and rambling on about? Its like those websites operated by pathetic people commited to connecting the Commodore 64 to the internet...
Me myself once bought an Amiga in hopes that it would be the answer to the PC disease, I was wrong. Dead wrong. I had to buy this and that to make it work and in the end i ended up with a 1500$ machine that didn't work cause this and that old part kept breaking, so I {bleep}ed it.
Your machine and its company has died! You must all relize that and get with the program! Go out and buy a P4 3gHz(!) with 1gb(!) of RAM. Seriously.
 So RIP Amiga and long live the future.
Yours,
Erik

Well, u probably haven`t heard about OS4 and A1 then? ;-)
-
Well, you got a point there. But.
The A1 is basically a Mac emulating Amiga, PowerPC arciteture, there is no inovation anymore. So if you want a Mac emulating Amiga, A1 is for you! :-D
-
Welcome back Shawn!

@Troll
Nothing wrong with different opinions, but realize not everyone shares yours. You go enjoy your PC, and I'll go enjoy my Amiga.
-
It`s not DoomMaster again is it? :-x
-
wow, what a great 1st post newbie.
The 1st Gen Camaro is dead, so is the 2nd etc... people still restore them (like me) and drive them..
Atari computers are dead
Metallica is dead cause their new music sucks
C=64 computers are dead
c=128 computers are dead
Apple IIc/e is dead
but people still use them because they like to.. I still use my Amigas and a PC. I could care less whats dead, its about having fun and doing what you like doing.

@Pucky
So much anger, why? :-?
For the record, you'd be hard pressed to find any fanatics on Amiga(ish) related web sites. Mostly what you find is hobbyists with varying degrees of devotion. Why not? I suppose you drive only brand new economy cars with no respect for classic and antique cars? Do you think senoir citizens should be shot because they're past their prime? probably not.
-Edit-
As for the C64 and or other classic systems. Why not use them? Why not put them online :-? Why do people jump out of perfectly good airplanes? Why do people climb mountains? Because they can. It's also a nice middle finger to the computer industry that states you MUST upgrade your computer every 6 months:-)
-
You could not be more right about Metallica my friend :-D THEY SUCK!
And for antique cars are awsome, nothing beats an good old Opel Rekord 1900 from the late 60's.
And no, I'm not DoomMaster or anybody like that, My name is Erik and I'm a recovering alkoholic... naw, I'm just a nobody in the Amiga world.
Peace
Edit to the Edit
People climbs mountains because its fun, you should give it a try ;-) As for the upgrading of the computers, that is really just o worthless status symbol, I haven't upgraded mine since well, 6 months ago, but that was cause I needed and I mean NEEDED more RAM. :-P

My A1200 powered up fine this afternoon, so it's not dead :-P
-
Well providing its o.k with you, I will still continue to use mine......

What you and others do not understand is we like to use our Amigas as a hobby. We do not use them because we think they are cutting edge in 2004. My son loves playing games on my Amigas, (He is 5) They sure beat all the complicated 3D crap games out there now especially for a young kid. Plus some of us collect them. I own every Amiga computer model except the 4000T. As a hobby. Not because I am stuck in 1987. I also have a 2.0 GHz PC with Windowz XP. If you joined this forum just to point out what you did you need to get a life not us!
-
Ui, Trekker has found a.org .......
All say hello to Trekker_John, resident nutjob from a-news.de :-D
-
I think it's pretty amazing that people can hack these computers to go beyond what they were invisioned to do. That in itself is a amazing example of what the Amiga spirit and idea is. IMHO, Amiga is more then hardware. It's an idea and a vision about computers. Will the new one live up to that? It remains to be seen, but who is to say that it can't or won't?
I sure can't. Can you?
And I'm just curious is there is another computer that anyone can name that has died and been reborn thanks to it's user/fan base.
-
I have a life...
Enough said about my life.
-
Trolls of the Amiga World unite!!
There should be a triumvirate - Doomy, this guy and JonoPike
-
And no, I'm not DoomMaster or anybody like that, My name is Erik and I'm a recovering alkoholic... naw, I'm just a nobody in the Amiga world.
Well, cheers then!
:pint: :pint: :pint: :pint: :pint: :pint: :pint:
:roflmao:

And cheers to you mate!
I guess this was the wrong place to post my oppinion, you people seem ready to die for the Amiga. I salute you! :afro:
By the way, whats a triumvate?

I did hear, but to me, these products have nothing to do with the Amiga. That's why I don't even conside getting myself a PPC board, I have an iBook, thanks.
I use my machine almost everyday, for many tasks which I cannot do with other machine, and I do not consider it to be dead at all, but I do think there is a lot of zealotry in the Amiga community which would be better if it didn't exist, for it hurts the "scene". For exampe, blind buying of sub-standard quality products, just to "support the Amiga"
I see quite a discussion coming ahead :)

no one is dying, you silly person.
what the heck is wrong with enjoying a hobby computer????
i have done PROFESSIONAL work with my amiga. I've been PAID for that work. So i love my amiga and the knowledge that is has afforded me.
That experience has given me a career in computer animation/graphics. I owe amiga some loyalty.
The experience has given me awards for the work i have done. While i have learned to use other OS's to continue my work, I STILL use AmigaOS, original and emulated. it is part of my art tools.
would you tell an artist that they are silly to use some old technique like oils just because it's "old"????
If it works, it's usefull. and those that like amigas think it's fun. and there is no better reason to use something than for fun!
are the companies "dead"?? yeah, basically. so what? I'M not dead. I live, i create, i still use amiga. and that is the only thing that counts.
-
I think the problem is that people not really involved see the Amiga as it was in the 90's not what it has become.
Pucky came here to get a reaction. You got one. Well done you.
-
What has the Amiga become, tell me, I'm kinda instrested what has happend since I left the bisnuess (never can spell that word right).
Still, whats a triumvatium?

That's the equivalent of going to a vintage car owners' forum and saying "face it, the Mercedes SSK is dead!"
Well, duh!
Of course the Amiga is dead.
Us doing stuff with and talking about our old faithful boxes isn't a sign of denial. Well, not in most cases, I hope. ;)
 So RIP Amiga and long live the future.
Hear, hear!
Though I think there's more future in things like Athlon 64 or PowerMac G5 than in a Pentium 4... Get with the program! ;)

:roflmao:
A pentium 4? Surely you mean an Athlon64? People here know the difference. Just because we happen to enjoy using an alternate system does not mean we don't know the first thing about PCs.
I suggest you ditch that chronic POS P4 ASAP and buy a real x86 machine :-P
