Title: How do u extract CDDA files from an audio CD?
Post by: jumpship on February 09, 2003, 01:06:11 PM
I am trying to find out how I can pull the audio files from an audio cd and convert them into WAVs of AIFFs.

Any help is appreciated!

the CDDA:s are just a "shortcut" or mirror to the actual raw audio on an audio cd. The audio data are stored just like multiple data tracks on the cd. cd-roms normally use one track only, the last track wich are normally the only track visible to the OS. Although the bootable "track" is always the first one.
Cannot tell you what to do using amiga software, cause i was not into ripping during my 1200 age, (acctually tried to play an mp3 once, but the 020 cpu didn't appriciate it). Most burning software should "rip" tracks.
Using windoze, xing audiocatalyst is a good choice. Maybe even audiograbber.

Thanks ple3003, Do you know if there is any s/w that will allow the miggy to "see" the CDDA files, similar too the way Windows does?

There is something on Aminet called EasyACDDA that looks as if it would do it.  I cannot test it though, as I don't have a CD drive in my Amiga.  Doubt it would let you see them as files, if that's what you need.

Use this FileSystem to mount your CD drive and then you are able to extract
the audio like your copy files from any other device

Or you could grab Secondspin and use that, it can extract the CDDA and save in all manner of formats including mp3, which is what I use it for. If your CD-Rom drive isnt supported by Secondspin then MakeCD demo is likely to be able to, its one of the things that isnt restricted in the demo is its abbility to Read CDDA and save it as RAW on a HDD, just stick an AIFF or WAV header on it and your sorted :)

If you are using an Amiga to do it I would sugest that you look at some of the options in MakeCD, as it can create both CDDA and AIFF image files.
