Title: How to use the adf on the Amiga?
Post by: HE-MAN on February 09, 2003, 09:37:19 AM
Hi!

I am able to transfer files between my Amiga and my PC by using the parallelports on the machines.
But how do I use the adf's files on my amiga after I transfera them?

Thanks!!!

There is a utility called Transadf which allows you to write adf images to a disk.

Cheers

;-) The .adf file format was created for use with Amiga emulators, such as UAE.  These emulators come with utilities that allow you to make .adf files from real Amiga disks, and to create disks from .adf files.  Try looking for UAE on Aminet (http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/).

But how do I use the program transadf on my Amiga? When I get it over to the amiga harddisk there is no icon to run the game, just a file.

Ok, if my memory serves me correct you need to go into CLI and type, as an example substituting the your relevant file and directory, :

transadf DRIVE df0: FILE work:example.adf WRITE

On Wb3.1 (and probably every other version) just go into the disk where Workbench is installed, go into the System drawer, then open  "Shell".

BTW i'm getting an A1200 - if I connect the paralell ports together, what should I use on the Windows/Linux and Amiga side of things?

Just get

 ftp://de.aminet.net/pub/aminet/disk/misc/tsgui.lha

TSgui (TrackSaver GUI)
======================

 -  can create Image files (also known as ADF or HDF) from any floppy disk or
    harddisk partition
 -  can write Image files back to disk
 -  can be used from CLI or Workbench
 -  can compress / decompress image files with GZIP
 -  German and English AmigaGuide included
 -  can create custom ADFs from copyprotected disks (experimental)
 -  catalog description file for creating your own translations

It will even fit then 900k plus adfs on disk.

Sorted

No probs

Click on the workbench disk  icon and then on  the system icon and then lastly on the Shell icon.

Cheers

Hmm... Is there any software for Amiga that could convert .ADF's to DMS-files? Probably with somekind fo batch-conversion support?

Or can ADF's be extracted to those RAM-disk-alike virtual drives like DMS-files can?`

I'd love to HD Install many of my ADF's with the help of WHDLoad, but first writeing all those ADF's to floppies - agh... :-)
