ive got 2 a500 pluses.. one has 512k of chip ram and the other 1mb. i also have a 512k trapdoor memory expander thingymajig... the problem i have is that when i use the 512k in the low memory machine, it works fine, but when used in the 1mb machine, it refuses to boot and i get the green screen.. which i take means theres a problem with the chip ram. how can it boot fine with no slowram, but not boot with it, with a chip RAM problem?

The A500 with 512kb is NOT ab A500+ as these all came with 1mb.
(Maybe old board in slighly newer case ?).
The A500+ has a realtime-clock on-board while most 512kb-boards
for the normal A500 came with the clock (the A500 had none).
Two clocks at the same address ? Bad idea !
Bare 512kb-board without clock are known to work, so if you could
just find a way to rurn it off.....

Oh and maybe you will need to turn the ram-board "off", so it is
recognized as Chip-MEM (I know that it doesn't make sense ;-) )
-
ime pretty sure its a 500+.. i'll have a look when i get home

The "+" in A500+ means that it has:
1mb on-board instead of 512kb
Kick2.0 instead of 1.2/1.3
Agnus 8075R0/R5 instead of the 512k/1mb versions.
Denise 8373 instead of 8362
A realtime clock onboard.

Basically, if it's got 1Mb chip ram, you can't use the 512k upgrade in it either. I think.
-
ok then.. i believe you...

@olegil
Yes you can, if it doesn't have the clock.
Not sure if you have to turn it on or off, but back than a
friend of mine was using a 1.5mb-Chip-MEM-A500+.
