I have a 3000T that I have been upgrading which suddenly stopped working. When I turn on the power the power light flashes rapidly for a second and then stabilizes. At the same time it flashes a red screen (no text) comes up on the monitor and when the flashing stops the screen goes dark. There is no disk activity, no boot screen. I disconnected all drives and zorro boards and get the same results - no request for a boot disk, nothing. Right before this happened I had removed my 060 accelerator board. Putting it back does not help. Power supply voltages seem ok. Any ideas? Jule

One thing to try,
Remove power cables, get a small flat head screw driver and remove and reseat the rom chips,
If you do that remember where the rom chips go (ie stick a label on one saying TOP and one saying BOTTOM).

a red screen at boot time means bad ROM, I've had it before when the ROM's worked loose off of my powerflyer.

Yes a red screen is supposed to indicate an error in the boot ROM, but you might invest in a chip-puller tool, so as not to bend the chip pins.

Thank you all for replying. I will try reseating the rom chips tommorow. If that does not work, I will try the roms from my 3000 D and see if that works. Jule

i've also had red screen on my A1200 just before the Faulty Expansion Card screen pops up, usually because the card is loose.

i had the exact same problem with my a3000d
a while ago. the connection between the
daughterboard and the mobo was bad. i
removed all the oxide and dirt and made sure
that the daughterboard sat properly and voila!
it worked... so, my advice to you is to try
to remove the daughterboard and put it back
again (and perhaps repeat a couple of times)
and if it suddenly (hopefully) works then
you have found your problem..... oxide...

I tried reseating the ROMs and then tried another set with no luck. Since the 3000T stopped working after I had removed an accelerator board, I suspected I had done some physical damage somewhere. I had looked before and not seen anything. This time I got out the magnifying glass and went over the motherboard and found two of the 68030 pins touching. I got a needle out and seperated them and it works! Now I have another problem - the one I was removing the accelerator for - with the accelerator in I get messages that say it cannot find resource library 44, which interferes with a number of programs, including putting up the background jpeg. The accelorator is a Quickpak 4000T-060 rev4. I got it off ebay and have no manual for it. I am using GVP 060 libraries that I used on a
Trex. Any ideas? Does anyone have a manual for the Quickpak 060? Can't find one on goggle or anywhere. 3.9 works fine without the accelerator. Thanks, Jule

;-) There is a web site called: http://www.L8R.net (http://www.l8r.net). There have archives of drivers, etcetera for obsolete hardware. They may or may not have the software you need.

You need the appropriate 68060.library for the quickpack card...IIRC. Though, I've only seen that error before with OS3.5/9 when copying a hard disc with the os to another partition or device withotu using the "all" arguement to include all protection bits and datestamps the same as the original volume.
I've also had several A3000 systems (Desktops and Towers) come in with the same problem..someone was installing an 040 or an 060 and knocked a pin of the 030 into another pin. Later A3000D systems will fail to boot if the zorro busplane is removed. (Early models will work fine...it's an addition to the later ROMs to look for the card.)
I can try to find the library for you if you'd like..I'm almost positive that one of the two above is your solution. If you are trying to boot froma different disc or volume with the 060, then I can help you fix that as well.

Got a question for ya, how the heck did you get that Quickpak 60 to work in an A3000T?? I have tried this myself with no luck.
I have both an A4000T and A3000T. I tried the Quickpak 060 from my 4000T in the 3000T but only get a gray screen. Could you share with me your jumper settings and chip revs? Did you add the extra socketed chip near the clock source jumpers on the A3000T motherboard?
I can supply you with the proper Quickpak libs by the way to solve the resource.library problem. :) I also have a copy of the jumper settings.

//RC// - thanks for the info. I believe I installed 3.9 over 3.1 on the SCSI HD and then added the GVP 060 library. The system works fine without the accelerator and does not give me the same resource library error. Hence, I think it most likely my problem is the 060 library I am using. I just downloaded a newer library from the trex site and may try that, but it still may not be the right one. Jule
