Title: I just killed my A600HD

Well - sorta.  I just repartitioned the drive with the 3.1 install disks (which it lets me do).  Now I can't reinstall the OS because it only has kickstart 2 and it asks for 3.0 or higher (duh!).

I have 2 questions/options:

1 - anyone know where I can get the workbench 2 install disks online? (prefered method)
1a - can I hack an install with the 3.1 disks I have (even format doesn't seem to work from 3.1)
2 - failing that, can I take the kickstart 3.1 rom from my A500 and install it in the 600?  

I really don't want to mess with hardware hence the first option is best.

I'm silly silly silly...

PS Workbench 3.1 completely legal, and 2.05 WAS installed, honest!!! :-(

The 3.1 ROM should do the trick.

My guess is that you formated the HD with Dir-cache or as "international", both options require 3.0 atleast.

Yes you can! Kick ROM's from A500, A600 and A2000
are compatible.

Thanks guys!

I'll give it a shot if I can't find some install disks somewhere (would rather not render my A500 useless - AFAIK it needs the 3.1 too boot off the hard drive)

I have a friend who had a A500+ but has yet to dig out the disks... - mine's an oldschool one that's been upgraded to ECS and 3.1 etc so I don't have the disks...

Just goes to show I shouldn't be so hasty.  I have never used a v2 machine - only 1.2 and 3.1 - big jump! :-)

I have OS 2.x on disk and ADFs.  Do you have a way to make real disks?

Also what you could do is make a special softkick disk to rekick the A600 to 3.1!  Would work great but use up 512kb.

Hey! now that sounds pretty hardcore. (I like it) how would I go about this (I can transrom the 3.1 from the A500 no probs)

but a) what software would you recommend to do it and;
 b) would that mean to boot from hard drive I'd have to boot first from a softkick floppy?

PS: I have just managed to get hold of some ADFs and I can write them using my A4000
(thanks heaps though - I'll PM you if they don't work)
