Interesting.......
I was trying to find a picture of a computer on Google for my picture I have to work on for photography, and interesting enough, I came by this link with an interesting feature....
Broadcast place... (http://ystv.york.ac.uk/fun/archive/makingbulletin/index.php)
Hehehehe, can you point out what computer and what monitor is there in one of the pictures...? :-D :-)
Even in 2001, they still use it! :-)
-
the one with the floppy on the side should be a 500.
-
And yet it's an A1200 ...
-
An Amiga 1200. Yes, sir you are RIGHT!! :-D
-
I emailed them about the Amiga, but turns out the replaced it with a PC due to some 'power' problems and it kept freezing. But they did decide to hang onto it and want to fix it up again. They also mentioned they used Scala for the credits when they aired... :-)
And yes, its definately an Amiga 1200 :-)
-
Nice to see some of 'em still in sterling service ... kinda :-)

In the news today on Danish TV2 I spotted a monitor with Take2 (I believe, was definately an Amiga program!). Must have been an Amiga with VidiAmiga12(RT) from Rombo.
It was from an animation school in Denmark and showed somthing from the upcoming Asterix movie I think (out in 2006) I did not have sound on the tv and didnt have a chance to hear what exactly it was all about:-(
Cool though, to see the Classic Amiga in action on national TV.

Greetings,
A year back, some local TV station and cable company used A1200. They've used Scala on their Channel Guide. How, I saw if re-boot when they'd had a problem. I believe they're still using it. cool! 8-)
regards,
Gizz

Even here in my country (malta) a local tv station still uses amiga 1200 with scala

So, then, who's "Amoeba"? ;-)

Hahahah! :-D
I have been trying to figure that one out. I think its a term from students that thought they heard "Amoeba" instead of Amiga :) But who really knows, i could sometime ask them why they came up with that term.

since i've never seen an amiga 1200, it's not surprising i didn't recognise it.

Kinda O/T, but I was actually talking with a person (via email) in Queensland the other day, and he reckoned he worked for a company that still use A1200's, up to a 100 he said. Not sure how much truth was in that statement, but an Amiga setup of that magnitude thats still in use would be interesting to see.

Or an A500 for that matter eh?

I used to live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and there was a local religious channel, I think it was channel 53 that used OS1.3 Amigas. Back in 1996 I remember being suprised one night while channel surfing when I saw the old 1.3 workbench screen with a dialog box saying, "Please insert disk in DF0:". The funny thing was that you could hear the mass being conducted in the background. It was a very spiritual experience.
More recently, in 2000, I was visiting the Minneapolis/Saint Paul International Airport and on one of the informational displays above a security checkpint was the "Insert Workbench" screen, exactly like adz' avitar. It thought that it was pretty cool.

Nottingham Trent University still show an Amga in their prospectus for the multimedia.
Sensible people.

amoeba= a600

@Sidewinder
Our local Time Warner cable used Amigas for lots of things including program guides (Prevue technology), the local community news/events slide show with music, and titles for the council meetings. Funny thing would be flipping channels and seeing a guru.
Now they switched to NT/2000 and every once in a while I catch the CTRL-ATL-DELETE to login message. I'm tempted to call up and tell them I can't find the CTRL, ALT or DELETE buttons on my remote. :-D

There are a number of places in Aust. which use Amiga's, channel 31 (if you've heard of 'em ;) use Amiga's with Scala for their titles

I saw a guru meditation on some airport here some few years back. The amiga was used for the info/advertise tv screens. I dunno if they still use it.
Also our biggest cabletv/satellite company telenor used scala with amiga some years back, but have now replaced it with a win9x pc running scala :-(
I also know that quite a few info channels still use amiga+scala.
I think Amigas main aim should have been towards this users, to get some updated scala like software and some cheap and SMALL boxes to run it on. Amiga is still well respected in this areas, but this hardware is sadly old/dying and the software is getting outdated.. Once they die, they replace them with x86 boxes.

Looks like their using U-MATIC cases under it to promote trapdoor expansion cooling.

Gatwick airport (in the UK) has several A1200s in cabinets, which are running a children's edutainment program - touchscreen painting kinda thing.
The only reason I know that they're A1200s was that one of them was left at the purple boot screen :-)
-
That's cool!!
The Amiga in the photograph is NO DOUBT an A1200.
