Title: Speed issues with SMBFS
Post by: Legerdemain on September 08, 2004, 09:59:44 AM
...I'm pretty curious on some speed issues I have when using SMBFS. My setup is as follows: A1200/Blizzard1260/Mediator/Realtek 8139/Genesis.

While trasfering files from the PC I get good transfer speeds, 350mb I'll transfer in less than four minutes (?)... but while transfering to the PC I do not get more than 20kb/s.

Any idea why? SMBFS simply being not that good? =)

Have you tried a RTL8029? Mediator's DMA support is faked so it uses gfx ram as buffer, slowing everything down. You may get more speed with a non-dma card...

Hi,

I've got a similar setup but with a Realtek 8029, download speed from PC is around 600K/s max, but upload to PC is maybe 120K/s, and its even slower with MiamiDX. I use an FTP server on the PC if I want to send stuff to the PC - i get around 350K/s.

Samba is much slower to upload than download. I get 5.0MB/s download and 2.2MB/s upload.

Uploading with ftp is 7.0MB/s.

Hm, I'll try to get hold of another card then, just to see if there will be some difference. But 20kb/s sounds ridicilously slow... even if it uses the gfx-card for buffering... hm...
