Title: Help getting the Apollo 1240 working
Post by: Cyberus on September 06, 2004, 05:16:46 PM: I sold an Apollo 1240 to a guy in Italy recently.
It worked fine on the system it was in, a basic towered A1200 - 3.0 ROMs, rev1d4, CD-ROM and 3.5" HD running off the normal IDE header.
He's left me +ve feedback and is quite happy with it, and me. But I want to see him with it working.

Here is his first email:

I suggested that the A1200 PSU wouldn't be powerful enough, if he had HD, external floppy etc, and that he should ensure he had 68040 library in his LIBS: drawer.

He replied:

At this point, I don't know what to suggest - I said that he needs to have a SIMM in the accelerator (I sent him a 16MB one with the board) - but he probably isn't stupid.

I really want to help this guy out, but I don't know what else to suggest - it worked fine when I had it. Do you think it might have got trashed in transit?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Post by: Brian on September 06, 2004, 06:21:38 PM: The Apollo boards in general but especialy the Apollo1240 need timeingfix on the motherboard before it'll work.

The power drop in long power cables can cause problems with a heavy expanded system so ask him to try add more power to the motherboard by the floppy powerplug (my expanded system didn't work propperly even with a 200W AT PSU untill I added another power cable to the motherboard).

Actually burned an A500 PSU with a B1230 + 3.5" HD + OverDrive CD + 3 external diskdrives but that was over a period of about a year. :roll:

i seem to remember that the 1240 came with a custom 040.library on floppy....(?)
