Title: TCP/IP Stacks for 3.1
Post by: DonnyEMU on September 06, 2004, 01:22:09 AM
Okay I have an amiga 1200HD and an Amiga 3000D.. I am a stubborn hold out who sees no good reason software wise for me to upgrade to OS 3.9 because everything on these old machines works just fine as the are..

I bought a working PCMCIA ethernet card and that and it's device driver works fine, however the TCP/IP stack I am using is a demo downloaded from nordic global.com (Miami) which seems to work fine.. I would like to buy the full product but I am under the impression that it is no longer available even though the website is still up (so I cannot register the product from the USA).

I have looked into OS 3.9 but that looks like a serious hassle for me to install with the hardware I have. Also, most likely the only network usage I will ever do with this thing is the open source A-Web and some file transfer over SAMBA..

I have heard of termite tcp and miami.. Can someone give me the low-down on what I need to do to get a non timed version   of Miami or if there is another good OS 3.1 solution..

If anyone has any ideas other than an OS 3.5/3.9 update for me I am very interested in hearing..

I use AmiTCP version 4 demo, you can get it here on Aminet (http://ftp.plig.org/aminetbin/find?amitcp-demo), I don't know if it is still supported, but it works well on 3.1 with Samba and accessing the internet. As far as I know, it is not timed.

I use Termite TCP/FTP. I bought it way back with
IBrowse ver1.1. I've upgraded IBrowse to ver 2.3.
I have OS 3.9 on my A3k and I tried Genesis TCP for
a while as it came with OS 3.9. I went back to Termite
because I found Genesis to be unstable and Termite has
always been rock-solid.
If you can find Termite I'd forget Miami.
Termite works with AmiSSL and probably with AWEB and
VOYGER and also IBrowse.
Termite ran great on OS 2.04 and OS 3.1 and now on OS 3.9.

No... Oragon Reserch is gone.
But I would think you could find someone on
A.Org with a legal copy they would sell for
just a few bucks. The Demo is on Aminet but
you need the registration number to be fully
operational. Version 1.3 is all you need.
I saw a copy on EBay a while back that sold for
around $3.00 (a steal in my opinion).

That SoftHut price seems awful high to me.
I would think by putting a few posts on the different
Amiga forums, AmiBench, AmigaWorld Amiga.org etc.
you could do much better.

That's not the TCP/IP-stack. IIRC it's a terminal program.

Termite is not Termite TCP, but they do have Genesis there for $54.95 US but that's more expensive than AmigaOS 3.9.  :-(
