Title: Anyone here w/a Prometheus?
Post by: TheMagicM on September 05, 2004, 02:45:34 PM
I guess next week I will order one for my soon to be acquired A4000D.   I figured, why buy a Cybervision 64 when a PC graphics card that costs $25 will woop on a $200 card.  Which graphics card are you using? Any drawbacks to this new setup?

Works fine here in an A3000D with a Voodoo3 3000 (tight fit!) and an 8029 Nic.  Only issue I have is with the additional delay at setpatch.  I once read this was caused by the '040 having to build some memory tables for the PCI range.  Adds about a minute to the boot process.

Anyway, it's the fastest 2D i've ever experienced on an Amiga and no stability issues to boot.

They survived a hurricane, so they must be of exceptional quality. :-)

sounds good.. I already emailed Red.. this will be a cool upgrade for my A4k.  The way I saw it.. Spend $120 for the Prometheus (w/o shipping) buy a Voodoo3 on ebay (~ $15) and a networking card ($FREE - $5) total of $140, instead of buying a Amiga networking card $85, Cybervision 64 $200 which is $285.   Replacements for the pc cards are plentiful and cheap  :-o   :-D

Don't forget that this purchase will also get the most out of your A4K. There's really no way that any amiga genuine gfx card can come close to Voodoo 3 in ability and performance. :-) And the extras, like getting cheap sound and eithernet pci cards is just gravy.
