Title: Hi everyone
Post by: Scaleskin on September 04, 2004, 05:55:25 PM
Hi, I am Scaleskin, and am obsessed with Amiga games, since it was the first ever machine I ever got my hands on and grew up playing the brilliant games on it...in fact I still play R-type which I first played about 15 years ago..

Anyway...I came across this site when searching for emulation stuff and thought I might as well join the community here...so Hi everyone!

Scaleskin.

Thanks...I'll probably start posting in other sections soon...I tend play amiga games quite a bit, and am playing around with HD games at the moment...trying to get them to work.
Anyway, I have always liked the amiga...may be a bit slow compared to modern systems..but the games were much harder than most modern games...and because I can't complete them winthin a few hours...I prefer them.

Welcome,

Don't know if you are aware of http://www.back2roots.org/ Source of legal gaming stuff.

Yeah..I am aware of it..as well as places like Aminet and the Nth Dimension coverdisk archive...I get most of my ADF images from there.

Welcome :-)

Back2Roots have a nice HD games section.  WHDLoad and JST are two things to go find out about - they allow HD installation of old floppy games, even under UAE it's nicer to double click an icon than go find that old floppy image ;-)

Yeah..we were looking on ebay for them...but at the same time, the stuff we already have we can get stuff to get a HD put in etc..
I am trying to figure out how I can put the ADFs onto amiga floppies to play them on the amiga from my laptop...Trying to connect laptop to amiga...cant find the software..

Heres a question...How do I set my avatar here?

There's not much point putting a hard drive into an A500 because most games don't use the hard drive unless you get WHDload.  An A1200 comes with a 44-pin mini IDE controller on the motherboard so you can use a laptop hard-drive in it.

AmigaForever 6.0 comes with software to link Amiga to PC.

Click on "View Account" on the upper-left corner of the page, and click on the button "Avatar" at the top.

That's bulls**t! Most games will work on a HDD and
without using WHDLoad! You should do your homework properly.

Yeah ... you can use JST instead :-D

Seriously, the vast majority of games do need a 3rd party HD installer of some sort, even A1200 ones.  WHDLoad is about the most comprehensive one, though it's made to work with originals so isn't so much use with all the ADF images found on Bach2Roots (almost all of them are taken from the 'cracked' ones as they tend to work better under UAE).

No, It isn't. I know that's a trick question!
I'm NOT Doomy... (I think)
But if you all try hard enough, I'll soon turn
into Doomy!

Hell, I'm not a moderator, but staying on topic keeps everyone happy :-)

As I recall, having a HD with summat like an A500 - I remember getting the A500-HD8+ Impact Series II back in '92 or whenever - means you can run games that run from Workbench from the HD.

As so many Amiga games had their own custom bootblock loaders, more often than not they are not HD installable. However, there are still a fair few that can be installed, such as Sim city for example (IIRC)
